Side of the road at the begining of the trail to the summit of Nevado de Colima at 3438m abvove sea level. Take the dirt road the goes down to La Joya and go almost to the end.
The dirt road to the park is very bumpy and dusty. High clearance is very recommanded. We touched the back of the van twice on the way up.
Park entry : 32ppp

Designated camping area in a flat river wash. Fine for 2WD. Arrive daytime to pay entry while open. Great camp for hiking to the summit. Download maps in advance. No cell signal. The campspot and the park are in the remnant crater and the summit is the highest remaining side of the old volcano. Wonderful cold sleeping temps.
Report Check-InI slept at La Joya then parked here (on the advice of one of the forestry staff) to hike to the summit. I took the more direct trail up from this spot - only 3km or so, but slow going at the higher elevations, then cut across to the antennae, down the road for 4km or so and switched to the path partially marked on maps.me to get back to the car, which follows the riverbed. Total route took around 7.5 hours for 11 or 12km, including an hour at the summit. very little snow when I visited, and I found a t-shirt and jumper was plenty.
I managed to reach the spot with no dramas in a RWD standard clearance Chevy Astro. Longer and taller rjgs might struggle with some of the dips, bends and low-hanging vegetation.
Entry now $40 - if arriving late on a weekend day be prepared to have to pull over a lot to let cars pass on the way down, there are many! On the Monday I climbed I saw just one other couple hiking, with dog. (I did see my first ever wild coyote though!).
Report Check-InSpent one night here. A very steep long and bumpy drive up here. Not much going on up the park. You will feel the attitude.
Report Check-InThe road to the campground took us one hour for 17km. Steep and bumpy.
