ADMIN NOTE: a user reported on June 9th 2018: This road is now driveable. There has been some work done on it since this post, so 4X4 is not required, although there are many potholes and washouts. We drove north to south without any problems, however.

Horrible impossible dirty road!!!!!! Very very very steep and narrow path for about 20km. If you are heading north, you won't make it, trust me. Even with a 4x4.
We listened to maps.me while going from north to south and this was definitely the worst road we've taken so far. We almost died 3 times and couldn't imagine driving in the opposite direction. Don't take this road, stay on Mex 175!!!!!!

The road up to Pluma Hidalgo (~ 12 km) can be driven with any type of vehicle. No potholes, no washouts. 90 % is paved, construction works are ongoing. And if you like coffee, you shouldn’t miss this little village. Lots of small shops around which sell coffee of the region. You can watch the roasting process at Café Plurmet. They even started a new batch for us so that we got aromatically roasted beans just the way we like it (medio-intenso) :)
