Description

Beautiful mirador next to Volcan Conchagua. The place is owned by Luis, a local who made this place so beautiful. A restaurant and cabanas will soon open at the top with everything ecological.
Directions:
- you can go on your own but the road is really bad and steep and you will still have to pay 5$ pp. We recommend the other option below.
- you can go with Luis truck from the nice pueblo of Conchagua. (Free & safe place to park and to sleep -> Ioverlander point). The tour starts at 3pm and costs 10$ pp. It's about 45 min driving to go to the top and enjoy the sunset with a hot chocolate! It's possible to camp with a tent at the top for free. We can assure you that the drive to go is part of the adventure (on the open back of the truck but it's doable with children). Strongly recommended !
You can contact Luis for booking at this number : +503 7824 7766 (- this is only working on Telegram now)

New WhatsApp number is: +503 7484 9950 - I think it‘s still Luis‘ company. Don‘t miss the sunrise, when you are going! So a sleepover in a tent with the company is your best option if you do not have 4x4 and high clearance.

Everyone on all the ioverlander spots near here keeps talking about how bad the road is from La Union. If you’re willing to pay a little extra ($20 total for entrance and camping), you can just come up from Highway 2. That road you definitely don’t need 4x4, and probably not even high clearance in most spots. It’s still very steep but the road is really well taken care of. It takes you to the Mirador del Pacifico (marked on ioverlander) property where you can camp and check out several different overlooks with views in all directions. The few extra dollars was worth it to me for a smooth ride up.

Nice place to camp. Very developed. There is a store, toilets some art gallery and some weird piramide museum. The road here is all cobblestone. Not to steep easily doable with any car or motorbike or scooter. The whatsapp below works for inquiries.

In the evening the local Shaman (hippie) gives some tour of his pyramid. it's very weird but funny.

Came up with our own 2WD 3,5t van (put a comment about that adventure at the entrance spot of the mirador on this application)

Just also want to give an update here, because we met a Luis here who told us that a different Luis - his boss :D - is not available on WhatsApp anymore. Only by calling him or via Telegram.

But we think that the actual company who runs this place and the tours is the company of THE Luis.

You can get all the information still via WhatsApp. The new’ WhatsApp number for this is: +503 7484 9950

Just text them and ask for information. Don‘t just go for the sunset. Go with a tent and enjoy the amazing sunrise! It‘s 17$ pP incl. entrance fee and camping fee and transport if you bring all your own stuff.
But you can also rent stuff. Just ask for it.

Not much to add, just be aware that if you are going to camp up the mirador that the restaurant is closed on Mondays. You can still get food at the little shop that is open but you will be eating instant noodles.

I couldn’t find any information about visiting “Espiritu de La Montana” with a motorcycle before going, so here’s a report in case it helps anyone. The road up to the lookout from Amapalita (near La Union) is usually described as a 4x4 only road. Be careful that there is a route google shows coming from Cachagua, but it does not exist! Locals told me if I went that way, I’d be going off a cliff. Based on the description of the official route up from the paid entry point at Amapalita, I was expecting a dirt road, probably rutted with big rocks, etc.

However the road after the gate is actually made of huge embedded cobblestones/river rock, so it’s not dirt, and on a motorcycle, not the same as a dirt road would be. I did it on a fully loaded for travel adventure bike (400lbs), and managed it both up and down. Locals seem to take little bikes with street tires up and down easily, and there are a lot of stickers from Central American moto clubs up top. But it is incredible steep, with several very challenging hairpin turns. The cobblestones bounce you around like crazy, so some ground clearance is needed. The way up took me 25 minutes, down took longer because a few of the turns I basically had to walk the bike in gear to make it. I think most motorcycles could do this road in dry conditions, as long as you are comfortable with very steep, exposed riding with tight turns and an uneven surface. There are also trucks coming both up and down, and they take up the full width of the road. If it’s wet, I would not attempt it as these types of cobblestones turn super slick.

You can camp at the lookout point, which is incredible for sunrise. It’s not quiet or relaxing because people are arriving all night, but definitely worth it for the view! They charged me $1 to enter with the bike, $7 for camping (with my gear), hot chocolate up top is $1. If you want to avoid riding the road yourself, it sounds easy to catch the big shuttle truck up from town instead and camp that way.

Such a beautiful view and highly recommended to see sunset and sunrise here. The easiest way to get here if you don't have a 4*4 or mean machine to drive up this road is to arrange transport in La Union. Go to restaurant El Dragon, you can park there for free and ask about going to the mirador. The price is 17usd pp and includes transport (the one we took left at 3pm but be there at 2:30 the latest), entrance and staying overnight. Bring (or rent) camping gear, pet friendly and the restaurant for dinner and breakfast is cheap.

Very beautiful set up in the middle of a pine forest. And of course the view (if it’s a clear day) is phenomenal. We found the asking price a bit too steep as was the drive up! $7 p/p on top of the $5 entrance fee we paid down the hill. No showers, just toilets and restaurant.

Report Check-In

If you go by car (and yes its steep, 4x4 probably needed) you still pay 5 USD for the car and 5 USD extra per person. The street from gate to Mirador is mango heaven, they lie everywhere, you can pick some up along the way.

We parked in Choncaga, the village and decided to go up to the volcano to spend the night. We reserved a few days in advance via whatsapp Julissa Gomez +503 7484 9950. We paid 17$ round trip pp including entrance for the park, transportation and space for camping. We rented a tent 10$/2 people and 5$ for a mattress (not very thick). They picked us up at 8am in Conchaga, in front of the church but you can also depart at 3pm. We came back the next morning at 7pm (departing time). There is not much to do up there so if you are planning on spending the whole day take a book. It was a great relaxing day. At night lots of wind and it gets a bit chilly so take some warm clothes. The sunrise at 5am was wonderful. We had a short night but it was worth it !

This is the parking spot at the Mirador Espiritu de la Montaña.
Cost is 5 per car paid at a gate a few Km down, and another 5 pp over here for the mirador. If you want to camp you can pay another 2pp. Beautiful place! You need a strong engine to come up here... 4wd recommended.
Only access is via Amapalita. The other side of the mountain is closed with a gate.
Camped at the place where they take you to see the sunset. Nicer than at the parking here, and you’ll be alone there.
