Description

*Camping is illegal at this location.

Level gravel/grass lot on a canal, among the fields out of town. Very quiet, breezy, no shade. Stayed out of sight from highway. Water authority car drove by, didn't bother. Some trash and gun shells but other than that it's a pretty nice place. I'd probably avoid staying here when the surrounding fields are being sprayed with pesticides. Nice for tents or with pets if you stay closer to the road with less trash.

We arrived at half past 8, cops showed up 10 mins later and told us it was illegal to stay here

quiet spot next to the river. when we arrived there was a couple shootin a BB gun, they were friendly and waved to us. Around noon the next day a man showed up to fish in the river. Otherwise nice spot with a beautiful sunset, lovely sounds of birds and insects, and is close to the Everglade NP Visitors Center. Would stay here again.

Report Check-In

Stayed here two nights. Won't be back.
1st night - arrived right on Sunday night right at dusk. Two ATV's were leaving and it looked like two teenagers were hanging out in a sedan. No trouble and the teens left about 30 minutes later.

2nd night - arrived after dark and no one was there. Then, at 3:30am in the pitch black someone decided to start shooting their gun off into the earth piled up dividing the little patch and the farmers land. This went on for over 15 minutes and sometimes I heard bullets whizzing past the earth bank and into the darkness. The target practice did not seem to be aimed towards us generally but it was a scary situation nevertheless. I will not be going back for a third night.

Have stayed here a few days in a row while visitng the Everglades... stayed 2 nights at Flamingo and 1 at Big Pine. Both are excellent campgrounds but can't afford to stay every night in the park. No body bothered us although it seems every night locals like to ride their ATVs and 4 wheelers around out there... loud for about an hour each night. I didn't hear them with ear plugs but husband did. Arrived late each night and left early. Excellent ranger programs at the park!!

very quite place. Sometimes you can here some noise from tractors but it is constantly. very dirty so i would not stay there with kids or pets. stayed there for three nights even on the weekend and had no Problems with locals.

Report Check-In

Staying here for the evening. Previous descriptions are correct. Pretty quiet so far tonight. The odd ATV went by before 10pm, afterwards nothing. Very good spot. Some broken glass on the ground around the area and many shell casings!

Report Check-In

I probably wouldn't recommend this place. It's nice that it's free and relatively scenic but it appears to be an area highly trafficked by locals. Lots of kids on ATVs, others who came by just to smash beer bottles. Lots of glass, trash, and gun casings everywhere. I didn't have any actual incidents but I didn't feel particularly safe either. Sadly I didn't see any alternatives either.

Report Check-In

Quiet flat camping area along canal. There are fields all around and workers arriving in buses early. There were some cars parked near the road when we arrived. Probably local people. We went around the corner out of sight of the road. Another iOverlander camper was there. Like previous comments. A big rig would probably have a harder time staying unseen.

sweet spot. just like Fabien pickel described. we did encounter lots of mosquitoes.

Level gravel/grass lot on a canal, among the fields out of town. Very quiet, breezy, no shade. Possibly not 100% legal, but no signs. Stayed out of sight from highway. Water authority car drove by, didn't bother.

Nice for tents or with animals.
Huge rigs might catch someone's eye as you'll have problems hiding.
