MODERATOR NOTE: Place removed because wild camping in the National Park is illegal.
In National Parks, it is illegal to camp in parking lots, you must be in a designated camping area. For more information, please consult the Death Valley National Park website, or stop in at one of the Visitor Centers and ask a NPS employee. The fine for camping illegally is $230. This area should not be listed as a place to camp.
Don’t stay there it’s forbidden, stay in campgrounds in national parks, there are cheap and convenient (water and toilet).
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.

Report Check-InDefinitely not allowed to stay here! We parked here to make some dinner and watch the dunes in the moonlight and the park rangers came and told us if we are sleeping here they have to give us a 230$ fine per person. Don’t risk it! According to them they pass by a couple of times ;)
Report Check-InIt’s forbidden to overnight on this parking lot. People got an 240$ usd ticket.

Report Check-InStayed with some others on the parking lot; had a calm night without issues
Report Check-InAccording to National Park regulations it is clearly prohibited to camp or park overnight anywhere on the valley floor outside designated campgrounds. There is an official campground nearby at Stovepipe Wells, but not free. Free back country camping is allowed one mile away from any developed area, paved road, or " day use only" area. There are plenty of opportunities, so, why break the rules? Get a map and detailed info at Furnace Creek Visitor Center.
Report Check-Inparking in a low point of death valley, our gps says -50m as altitude, very hot. Good for the walk to see dunes.
Report Check-InA simple parking lot for cars and trailers. There are non-flushing (pit) toilets in an actual building. Van camped here overnight with no issue. Cars and another camper stayed as well. No charge. There is NO tent camping here. There is a spot down the road for tent parking but the parking lot says there is no overnight parking. So I’m not sure how people get there.
