great spot on the bottem of lake Isabella. last time you can canoe there was in 2017. and rabbit island was a real island. now it is a bunch of rocks where you can camp in the shade of out of windy wether. further north is still a lake. very many spots to camp everywhere.

great spot .easy access , shade , daily afternoon breeze, really fun rock formations to explore with lizards . the birds here amazing along with rite now many young male mockingbird that chat it up alll night long , coyote, cattle, and can not forget the springtime bug invasion . and rite now can NOT keep any water source outside of van due to swarms of bees in dire need of water. though over all it really is the perfect spot to be the heat for a few.

Great spot for camping the last two weeks. Great cell service and great radio station

Report Check-In

Great place to hang and has all amenities you need for the 14 day limit. Vault toilet, trash dumpsters, fresh potable water and a dump station ($10) approx, 4 mi away at Camp 9 campground. Closer vault toilet at Stine Cove. Showers on the south side of lake at Paradise Cove campground. Kernville is aprox. 8 mi away and has an excellent market (Sierra Gateway). Also all the shopping you need in the towns of Mecca Mountain and Lake Isabella.

Stayed 1 night. Not a soul in sight. Peaceful, great weather, shade trees and owls at night.

2-3 bars T-Mobile LTE but was enough to get some work done on hotspot.

Beautiful views of the lake, mountains and Hanning flat from the top of the rocky hill.

I’d stay again.

Report Check-In

Nice spot. Only one real camper and a few Covid/ long term campers. Lots of room to spread out at this time of year. Lots of trees around as well giving us hooting owls last night! In the Spring you would probably see many more birds. Firm sand most everywhere. A tiny bit of road noise, but very reasonable.

Report Check-In

Easy access for our 22 ft motorhome.
Great place shared by one other person and the cows.
We had full service on our ATT.
Nothing here, so you'll have to be self-contained, don't leave toilet paper all over the place.

Report Check-In

Didn't stay here because there were already two vehicles. It's open, there's shade. Room for several vehicles in a group. Easy access.

Report Check-In

Nice open spot with great cell coverage on all three providers ATT, TMOBILE and Verizon. I made it here in a Prius.

Report Check-In

I rolled in at night and was pleasantly surprised when I woke up at how pretty it is here. Big sky, stars, shade available, very quiet. A beautiful desert camp spot, and plenty of space for many rigs. Road was fine for my 2WD 158" wheelbase Sprinter.

This area is technically part of Hanning Flat Dispersed camping.

For some reason the app isn't letting me give a star rating, but I'd give it five stars.

Report Check-In

As described. Lake is not super clean and half dried up.

Report Check-In

Great spot. Turn right for water access, left for trees. Be aware of rattle snakes. Cell tower in line of sight. Great Verizon signal

Report Check-In

Great place to camp right along the lake.

Report Check-In

beautiful place. good dirt road. a few fire rings and lots of open space. good Verizon and AT&T 4g. quiet with some cows.

Report Check-In

Great spot, felt safe. I stayed here for 12 days. Amazing bird watching— I saw a barn owl and maybe a great horned owl. Great blue heron, great egret, quail, falcons and hawks. There are lots of oaks trees here for shade. There is red algae in the lake and I wouldn’t rely on that for drinking water, even when filtered. There are water spigots at paradise cove campground just up the road.

Report Check-In

Stayed here two nights. Not in the exact posted here but up the road a little. There’s a camp site that’s tucked into a grove of trees. Shaded and more private that other spots. There were some shots off in the distance but nothing concerning. Peaceful and quiet.

Report Check-In

Cool spot, accessible with 25ft RV. Little traffic, only locals taking out there dogs etc. Beautiful bird sightings, loads of species.
We had to move a little because of continuing flooding from snowmelt. Keep an eye on it and don’t get landlocked

Nice place, some mosquitus, couldn‘t swim behause of fludded grasland!

Several notes:
Very long and winding road through a canyon on HWY 178.
Please see my pics to confirm length of stay.

Did not find a thing called rabbit island, (that was my GPS! It “appeared” on my google map in the morning, but the night before it had my location listed as in the water).

The air is especially fresh! Only one other camper out here. You can see from my pics I arrived after sundown. Just glad I made it!
There were a couple of times I heard some engines - sounded like someone might have been doing donuts. It got very cold in the middle of the night. Was greeted by two adorable pups from the other camper nearby. One more note: check your shoes- mine had several thorns attached.

Report Check-In

Great options for campsites. Plenty of shade if you want, unlike the other side of the lake. Don’t rely on the lake as a water source, the shore is too marshy and there’s an algae bloom currently making the water unhealthy for contact with pets or people. Good AT&T service. Road is a little washboarded but accessible in any vehicle. Continue down the road and a few sites already have fire pits, lots of space to pull off wherever you want. Very quiet and private.
