Description

Parking lot for Hidden Cave is about 1 mile from Highway 50 (turn right if coming from the east). no noise. cell reception from nearby Fallon. The 1-mile graded dirt road starts near the petroglyph site which is on Highway 50 (about 6 miles east before Fallon). it is ok even after rain. some parts leveled. many more locations nearby. We were here with 1 more truck.

Hidden Caves is an archeological site that gives tours every Saturday starting in the town of fallon. More info may be available on the web. The cave is actually unaccessible, so to see it you have to be in the tour. The gravel parking lot is adjacent to vault toilets. This place is very popular for people to come to walk their dogs or to launch their motorcycles into the nearby area. A few feet further from the parking lot is a sandy dirt road entrance to the left where you can get some distance from casual traffic. We were the only ones camping here at this spot. Its a nice area and very quiet. Even though the cave is blocked off, there is still a nice interpretive trail nearby.

Nice place just off the highway. Dirt road was easy to travel in my minivan.

Report Check-In

Quiet spot, only coyotes howling in the distance. plenty of places to park. Bathrooms at the cave parking lot were clean. Beautiful sunsets.

Report Check-In

Three Jets took off in the morning but it wasn’t too bad. Caves are only open every other Saturday via tours with the museum. Lovely spot and nice way to break up the drive :)

Report Check-In

Quite the spot with vast open desert to the west. The trailhead to the Hidden Caves (which are closed except for organized tours) has a pit toilet and a trash can and a picnic table all in good order. Occasional jet over flights but otherwise silence and a strong cooling breeze.

I did not have issues with jet noise, maybe it just depends on whether your stay aligns with their schedule?
I camped off the dirt road across from the cave parking. It was very quiet, with some people coming to hike on Sunday. I would return here if in the area. Although DEF NOT if it's raining- the dirt road feels like it would turn to mud in an instant.

Report Check-In

Lots of jet noise like the other person said. Otherwise not that bad. Lots of room for a lot of vehicles. You can go pretty far back, or up on the ridge with a view. If you're going eastbound there aren't a lot of good spots after this. Ok cell service on Visible / Verizon. Was able to get some work done and steam a movie.

Report Check-In

Wish I hadn’t come here. Near sunset dozens of fighter jets took off and spent hours and hours circling the area. If trying to sleep in the middle of a busy airport runway is what you want, this is the place! Don’t understand all the “super quiet” reviews. Avoid.

Report Check-In

Great spot! I got in late last night and stayed throughout the morning. I have only seen 4 vehicles drive by this morning. I woke up to aircraft jets echoing through the area but it wasn't super early.
There is a hike (less than a mile) into the hidden cave but the cave is closed unless you schedule a tour.
Verizon service is great
If Heavy rain is expected during your stay or just prior too, do not drive down this road (or be VERY cautious), otherwise it was flat, and no issues with 2wd.

we are back here after years. great place. epic sunrise. ( check out outdor61 on insta). a mile down the road more space.

Report Check-In

nice quiet spot to spend the night. I stayed down the road a little ways

Report Check-In

I wouldn’t park in the gravel parking area. Just a lot of cars coming and going and isn’t very flat. I parked across from it and up the road there are several spots that have fire pits. Don’t drive on the white sand (salt) guarantee you will get stuck!

Report Check-In

Great place to hide your tent past the BLM site. Good for a touring cyclist.

Report Check-In

Nice spot but we were woken up by loud jets all morning from the Navy base. Pit toilet was fine, no worse than most and better than many. Tmobile service would flip between Edge and LTE (maybe between two towers?)

Report Check-In

We stayed last night, it was quiet and nice.

Report Check-In

Excellent location. Interesting geographical history and hikes. No shade, people come and go during the day. At night, super quiet. Seems the teenagers might use it as a hang out sometimes. Pit toilet is disgusting. Trash cans on site. Verizon signal was great.

Report Check-In

Very quiet place. After 7 PM nobody anymore on the spot. A few birds and a downcooling wind after a hot day. Fantastic.

Report Check-In

Awesome view. Great trails. Very Quiet and peaceful.

Report Check-In

Camping in gravel parking lot. Pit toilet and short walks to 3 caves. No shade or shelter.
