great free spot with bathrooms and showers. they recently did a prescribed burn of the area. it's all black and smells. I picked up quite a few nails etc out of the parking area at this site. obviously from cleaning out the fire ring.

Beautiful campground. Bathroom with hot shower and covered picnic area.

Can’t beat this view, especially for FREE! Lot’s of campsites to choose from. Only about 1/2 dozen other campers here so we all have privacy from each other. Spotty service with at&t

I'm having a hard time imagining a better campsite. took advantage of one of the free spots overlooking the lake: the sunset was gorgeous, the stars were gorgeous, and the sunrise was-also-gorgeous! Had a covered table, charcoal grill, and Fire Ring to myself. easily accessible bathrooms with free showers inside. Several other campers at this time of year, but it was not busy at all.

Nice free campground with showers if you’re self contained. Not crowded. Plenty of open spots on a weekday.

We recommend this campground! Clean space with nice picnic table area, showers, toilets, and an insane view! Paved road to get here which is nice.

level concrete pad, easy enough to check in (you'll need to grab their parking pass to put on your dash) and quiet! I had a nice view of the lake

Probably my favorite spot so far. Stayed two nights.
Free for non-electric at least, (not sure about electric) Nice bathrooms and warm showers!

For anyone wondering you can stay at a campground for up to 14 days and 60 days at the lake total.

Beautiful area, not very crowded at this time of year!! We only stayed one night, but would’ve loved to check out all the trails behind campground. We did have a visit from a Tarantula (!) but he finally wandered off into the grass.

Totally free camping in an okay place. You can pay for hookups, but we didn't. It was HOT even though the wind was over 22mph steady with higher gusts. The lake is very low so you can't just walk down to the water to cool off. Most sites here have a double sized shade structure and 2 picnic tables. There was a lot of little trash (dozens of cigarette butts and many bottle caps and lids mostly) as well as broken glass in our campsite and more, bigger trash in the brush and down the bluff. We drove a short distance to Cedar Canyon to swim, but just waded a bit: TONS of trash everywhere there. Cedar Canyon and in our campground were almost full of campers, but it was Memorial Day weekend. Positive: about an hour before sunset and after sunrise, the temperature is very nice and the wind let up. Although it seems like a lot of negative, we'll try it again as the price is right.

This campground is absolutely amazing. Thank you to the hard work of the Lake Meredith Recreation Area team for providing this oasis.

There is potable water and a dump station right at the ranger station before you reach the campground. Lots of beautiful free sites, we chose one overlooking the lake. They do have paid sites with concrete pads, water and electric if that is what you’re looking for, but we found the free sites to be exactly what we needed. They all have shaded awnings, bbqs and large fire rings for an added bonus.

The bathrooms are clean with water, heated inside and free showers which were a wonderful bonus.

There is a boat ramp right as you pull in. We didn’t go down, but it would be a great place if you have kayaks and whatnot. There also were a few trails down to the lake but they’re very steep so use with caution. All in all, this has been one of our favorite places to stay so far!

Beautiful free spot overlooking lake. Stayed on a Sunday night. Not very crowded. Flush toilets and showers. Trash disposal available. A few larger campers running generators...

10 paid RV sites with leveled concrete, water and electric hookups. 41 free dispersed sites with picnic tables, grills, and fire pits. Lovely views of Lake Meredith. Showers are lukewarm, but the bathrooms are heated so it’s tolerable. Note that there are only 4 unisex stalls to serve the whole campground. There’s a water spigot by the bathrooms, too. There’s also a free potable water/dump station on the road here, just before the turnoff for Cedar Canyon. Decent AT&T service. Very windy.

Fritch fortress showers are closed for winter, this one's stay open. nice pet friendly campground with water, showers, and places to sleep.

Nice place but I dont think it's free. It was a bit of a hassle to FIND someone you check into and pay but at the sites marked, that include utilities, its definitely fee based. We paid 25 but got 10% vet discount with electric and water. I walked down to the showers (which are free). Clean enough, just warm enough to not change my mind and you can hit the button as many times as you want but not adjustable. Only negative, no place to set your dry stuff that isnt gonna get wet. Needs hooks on the opposite side of the little wall or bring a little rolling ice chest with you to hold your stuff and sit on to get dressed. Overall, nice spot to camp for the night in Texas. Not too far from interstate, maybe half hour.

STAY HERE!!! Absolutely beautiful area, clean and well-maintained. Exactly as described in other reviews.

Sanford-Yake Camping Area.
Awesome scenic views over the bluffs of Lake Meredith with covered picnic tables and fire pits. There are two unisex handicap bathrooms with running water and showers. I stay here twice a year. Great cool spring weather from late April until June and September until November. The town of Fitch is just five miles away for groceries, gas and food.

Great spot. We arrived late on July 2nd and were a bit concerned we wouldn’t be able to get a spot but the area is huge. Tons of camping spots each with a fire pit and some with electricity and water.

Nice, clean bathrooms with showers too.

Really enjoyed this place. Wanted to add, great 4g with Verizon 12/3Mbps. Very windy. Park manager warned me about strong winds in the forecast, suggested moving down to the canyon along the shore. Might want to go there if windy. There's a steep path to the lake shore. Swimming felt awesome after a long drive.

Still open as of today. Bathrooms closed due to corona virus. Don’t forget to SoCal distance!

We also checked out the other free campsite on Lake Meredith.
This campground is bigger and has more space for dispersed camping. Beautiful views and gorgeous sunsets! We perched up high for reliable T mobile service. Fantastic free facilities - warm showers, flush toilets, picnic tables & shelter, rubbish bins, dump station, potable water - incredible. There are electric and water hook ups that you pay for if you need. Wonderfully quiet at this time of year.

Really nice National Recreation Area campground. Some of the best hot campground showers I have ever experienced. Normal campground issues: cars driving through at all hours, lots of people, generators running late into the night.
