Usually for a police check point we turn on the camera and if they ask something we always say that we are a "YouTubers" so they let us without problem. Try this. Have been working during 3 years travelling in South America.
:) Good Tip!

There was a big block of police at this location. We were stopped here. They asked for documents and since everything was ok they released us. No corruption. We saw them stopping others foreigners overlanders.

Many many police officers today, but they waved me straight through without any stop on my bike Canadian motorcycle. No problems.

I am always amazed how accurate iOverlander is. Exactly in this spot there was a police car at the side of the road, having stopped another poor driver. So they didn't bother about us and we just passed by. Keep lights on and seatbelts fastend!

We were stopped for a police check and while a police man was shaking my hand (to interrupt my attention) he probably touched our car with some device and made an electric short circuit (We don't know how he made it) then he showed me than my front light doesn't work and said than the fine is 996 soles. After few min of convention he asked for propina so we gave him 20 soles & 5USD and he was happy. The other day we went to an electric mechanic and our lights were totaly fine with no issue. The mechanic said that local police do kind of these tricks very often. Maybe try to shut down your car and turn it on again to reset the electric in your car, it might help amd everything could work again properly. Take care.

They tried to stop us and also the one after this, but we used as always our own "corrupt" trick:
if possible drive as close as possible behind another vehicle, best would be a truck, so you (and especially your foreign numberplate, which they love...) are not so well visible from a distance. In case they make a stopsign, than just continue driving.
With 2,5 years on the road in South America, we have only been chased twice. The 2nd time was the police check wright after this spot.
We said that we didn't understand it as a stopsign, but as a sign to slow down, because they often move their arms up and down, which in Europe is meant as a slow down sign. After chasing us and pulling us over, 15 km's after the official policecheck, we explained it and it was no problem at all. Had to show all the papers and could go.
Another excuse you could use in case you are driving behind another car is that you thought the stopsign was for the other vehicle. 😃
Good luck!
