I stopped here hoping to camp. As stated, it's very exposed and all vehicles coming out going will see you (and shine their headlights).

In the five minutes I stopped to check it out, two mototaxis stopped here. It seemed clear to me that there would be a steady stream of locals coming here. it's a popular spot.

So I went 500 meters to the north and found a narrow gravel patch next to the road. It's just as exposed, but far fewer people.

We asked the lady in the shop if it was okay to camp on the football pitch in tents as it looked more comfortable and not right on the road. she said it was fine. will report if any issues

Very nice spot to stop after a lot of kilometers in one way on the beautiful Montain, just 12 km before the « big » city of Celendin. Very quiet and safe just front of post office.

Little grassy camp spot in front of a small chapel. No privacy but hardly any people and traffic around so no problem. In the morning we woke up around 6am with a stunning sunrise viewable from inside our tent. Really awesome with all the clouds still in the deep valley underneath us. Cycling up starting from Balsas took us a day to get here but the views on the way up are worth it.

This spot has indeed a fantastic view. But no privacy really e.g. to have a camp shower and right next to the road (with admittedly little traffic). If you have a 4x4 or sufficient clearance, check out the spot we added close by "Level spot, secluded, incredible view".
If you don't have enough clearance, than this spot will certainly do.

we had a quiet night here. beautiful views at sunset and in the morning with the clouds rising upwards from the valleys below.

Really great place. Perfect view over the mountains, may be one of our nicest places we had.
ROAD: Very challenging 150 km single lane mostly paved track for big rigs. With our size (9.50 lenght 2.50 width 4.20 wheelbase) we felt that we have reached the maximum for this road. We had dry weather, but conditions can be significally changed when it is raining due to high possibility of land slights. However trip is absolutely gorgeous and for us one of the greatest roads we had in South America.

This place is at the top of the climb from Balsas as you’re heading towards Cajamarca, before you cross into the next valley and on to Celendine. Small area of Flat parking with fabulous views down to the Marañon. One or two vehicles passed during the night, but very quiet. We shared the spot with some guys enjoying sunset, they left early, had a fabulous display of ataos and were woken by local college students, environmentalists, who came to watch the sunrise. A lovely place.
