It was our second astronomical tour.
What they „offer“ now in Mamalluca don’t merit the effort and the cost.
They told us at the booking that our tour starts at 10:30 pm, we had to be there at 10 pm. Well, we had to wait 30 minutes before the payed transport drove to the observatory. There were so many people, many groups and because of a bad organisation we had to wait another 30 minutes not knowing what to do.
Finally our group of 20 people were sitting around a outdoor telescope, listening to a guide explaining the stars in a very fast way in Spanisch. 4 times everyone could look through this telescope but we never could see the observatory or going in.
We were very disappointed but it’s also our mistake not asking for an English tour. Definitely it’s a mass tourism.

It was our first asronomictour and we expect more than it really was. The telescope was not so big and you couldnt see the stars close. But it was also fullmoon and the Moon was shining to bright for seeing the stars clear.
The guid spoke good english

Report Check-In

Just to confirm that you should book an English visit, the guide is very nice and we were only two... after one out we had been joined by three chilenos speaking english as the Spanish groups were big (20/30 persons)

Report Check-In

We can not compare because it was our first observatory tour, but we choose the english group and de were only 13 people. We saw 3 others groups bigger (maybe 30/40 people). Telescopes were not very bigs but we liked our first experience. The guide was passionate and spoke very well english. 7000 CLP per adult, 2500 CLP for our 5 years old daugther, and free for the 3 years old one.

Report Check-In

We would not recommend this tour. Too many visitors even in April, the english speaking guide was "ill" so someone gave us only short instructions and there was no concept at all in the tour.

Report Check-In

I was there during the week out of school holidays. But we were more than 100. Ok for the talk and video but soo long to have a glimpse on the telescope ! And lots of lights coming from the parking just in front of the observatory's roof. Worst touristic experience in a long time...

The ticket was $ 7000cp/pp (You have to book it in advance but we were lucky we found for the same day. ) and they offer tours in English and Spanish , the observatory is 9 km away from this adress, a van can pick you up for $3000cp/pp . But if you have your own car you can drive behind the van and save the $$ .
