Just near the rest area parking, a quieter and hidden place where we spent one night during our road trip to Kansas City. It’s accessible from East and West highways.
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
a bit rundown, like it's forgotten. It wonderful to have the spot. water nearby and bathrooms up the hill. I think there may be a homeless guy camped in the brush near the dumpsters on the lower loop. traffic noise but you are at a rest stop. broken glass but that seems to be most everywhere. be sure to enter the rest area (west bound or east bound) into Google as it may not recognize the campground is connected and run you around to the other side for access.
Report Check-InAmazing rest area! mini campground nestled between the two highways. you get highway noise from both sides but there are a few trees to block the noise and lots of privacy. Verizon cell signal is weak but usable. update: predicted heavy storms with hail tonight, didn't want to get stuck out in the middle of nowhere so drive in to Topeka.
Report Check-InCampsites inside of a rest stop!!! Thank you Kansas!
Only a handful of pull off but this is truly an Oasis.
Awesome free campsite! You can stay 1 night at any Kansas rest area.
Heading eastbound, continue through the main parking lot of the rest area and turn left down a 2-way side road, then take your first right to reach the camping loop. This is a paved loop in the median of the highway, tucked away down a hill, that has picnic tables and grills. Some of the picnic areas are covered. Three or four of them have level parking spots that would fit a van or small RV for an overnight. You could probably get away with tenting here for a night since it’s so secluded. When you’re on the loop, you’re not visible from the rest area.
Unfortunately I didn’t stay here because I was confused by the previous descriptions, and didn’t realize it was a developed picnic site that was part of the rest area, so I stopped somewhere else. Definitely wish I had though! The only downside is significant noise from the highway on both sides. I’ve got two bars of Verizon signal.
Report Check-InGreat spot tucked away downhill from the main east-west rest stop. Noisy from both sides of the freeway but given the rest of the state, hard to argue with.
Report Check-InGreat spot as advertised. Arrived very late and one of the spots was open. Nice and dark. Left early.
Report Check-InNice free “campsite” with picnic table and grill behind the rest stop.
Report Check-InConfirming road closure possibly a winter thing. Plenty of spots with cars : eastbound has best 360 views of surrounding plains. Head down to westbound side and park on first left tiny lot for best privacy. A steep trail to its left ends highest point with views and monument. Gem of a rest stop!
Report Check-InTake the exit for the rest area but continue past the main parking lot, there is an unmarked road down a slight hill to parking spaces and picnic area. Darker, quieter and much more private. When im traveling through this area I always park overnight and use the picnic area to make breakfast
Report Check-InRoad to get to the 'campsites' is blocked by two dumpsters and a road closed sign. I'm not sure if this is just for winter.
Report Check-InGreat stop along the highway, can move from Eastbound to Westbound sides within the rest area which is cool. Lots of areas to park besides the secret oasis that are closer to bathrooms.
Report Check-InIt’s a rest stop oasis, alright. No one seems to know it’s back here. Lots of shade, lots of greenery. Away from the highway noise. Cicadas when I was there, drowning out all road noise entirely. A little loop at the end of the road where I jogged. Three large camping spaces along the road, with ample side parking down in the loop. Almost level ground but not quite. No restrooms down the road. Lots or barbecues and picnic tables. Also lots of threaded water spigots, and an RV dump in the main rest stop areas. The rest stop oasis is accessible from both Eastbound and Weatbound highways.
Report Check-InHidden area with several picnic tables in the woods. Before getting back on highway make a left, down a hill and make a right. Eastbound only.
Report Check-InNice little ‘oasis’ between both sides of the freeway. There are a few spots here so you can spread out from other people. Last night there was an RV across from us - also the restrooms nearby were clean. There is some road noise. And also picnic tables.
Report Check-InJust near the rest area parking, a more quiet and hidden place where we spent one night during our road to Kansas City
