Description

Register at the district office/ranger station at the main SVRA entrance a bit north off of Cienega Rd. Be aware of park hours as you must pay at the park entrance before proceeding back to camp. Self registration not permitted. Call park at 831-637-3874 for more info if required.

Campground is in the Upper Ranch section of Hollister Hills SVRA, an off road state park. This section is open only to four wheeled vehicles (other sections open to motorcycles and atvs). 4x4 not required to reach campground and road is clear, but surrounding trails require varying degrees of equipment ability so do not get lost.

There are several other campgrounds in the park as well. This campground has hot showers and a few spots. Good shade from large oak and alder trees. Expect vehicular noise during the day, but no night driving is permitted. Expect more people on weekends and high season peaks, otherwise very quiet.

Fee is 10 dollars.

Latest Check-Ins

It’s open and $10 as stated

As others mentioned, it is a bit confusing as to where to go. I think it’s easiest to use the visitor center as your initial destination. I got here just after 6p and had to pay at the kiosk which is at the office across from the guard shack. I didn’t get to choose where to camp, it just assigned me to the upper ranch. Kiosk accepts credit cards

I headed to sycamore campground. After paying, exit back the way you came and make a right back onto Cienega Rd. After about a mile you’ll see the Vineyard Schoolhouse on your right. Turn in there and keep on McCray Rd into the upper ranch area. There will be signs for the campground keeping left. You’ll see the restroom and showers.

Other than the reserved pavilions, there doesn’t seem to be designated parking but enough spaces for maybe 15 vans/cars maybe small RVs

Very quiet and peaceful with the sounds of Acorn woodpeckers; no T-Mobile

As of this date, the entire Hollister Hills SVRA is closed due to road damage from flooding. They do not yet have an anticipated opening date. Before trying to camp here, check their FB page to see if they are open. Road crews told us all gates to access the park are closed and locked.

Visited Upper Ranch on a busy spring break weekend; it's quieter than Lower Ranch. Sycamore is situated just inside past the Vineyard School entrance. A gate code is required most days, so be sure to request it when checking in at Lower Ranch ranger station. The camp has large firepits, picnic tables, trash cans, water, two flush toilets, and two hot showers. There are a couple covered spots available. You're in a small oak grove in the center of vehicle tracks. It's great to watch the big machines pick their way up the black diamond trails during the day. Even on the busiest of 'party days' the camp goes silent at 7pm. Great spot, great price!

Great deal for $10. Easy self registration. Overall great place to stop over for cheap. A bit dirty but just because of the environment being geared towards motorsports. We arrived at about 9pm in November, the property is very dark and not east to find your way around giving it’s a motorsports facility with dozens and dozens of dirt roads. The map to find camp grounds in the facility can be confusing.
