Chile
This is the office to purchase a ferry ticket with the Somarco company (www.barcazas.cl for reservations) to Caleta Gonzalo. They offer the two stage route and has direct ferries in high season, see pictures for the prices.
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
Book wayyyyy in advance if you’re planning to pass this month. Had to pay $140 for my car and 1 passenger because the next available route at non-commercial price was in late February. Learn from my mistake.
Report Check-InNo need to stop here of you bought tickets online. Friendly staff directed us straight to the ferry boarding around the corner.
Report Check-InIf when booking online with your phone you can’t get any vehicle space, try with a computer. We were successful that way for a spot the very next day. On the morning of sailing it appeared as if a few vehicles got on with no pre-booking but a few also didn’t.
If you have a booking when you arrive at the dock, join the queue and then just wait, eventually a person comes with a clipboard and “ticks you off”.
Report Check-InBook your ticket in advance!
Came here on the 4th of November and parked in line with lots of other people who didn't manage to get a ticket.
There was a lot of chaos and after waiting all night only 2 or 3 cars managed to get on the ferry.
Just FYI, the next ticket would have been available in a week
Alternative route: Ferry from Puerto Montt to Chaiten (Naviera Austral)
We're heading there now
This is the place to buy the ferry ticket. Everything uncomplicated and easy. we payed about 46.000 pesos for a camper with 2 persons
Report Check-InSchedules seem to change so better check online for the more up to date info.
That said, last comment by thomasbouddha is good and mostly accurate at the moment, thank you.
We left with Austral because
they had one more departure at 21h only that day we left and they still had room in it the same morning online (maybe they added it later? Or because it was at night? Anyway like I said worth checking online). No problem paying online.
All the other departures with either one company were not available (online) until in 3-4 days, more than a week for the through the fiord/cheaper one. We didn’t ask about the waiting list.
Also, we have a small van (Mistubishi L300, don’t know the length), we chose the “furgon” category and the price was the same as a car. We didn’t see where we should have putted the length (on the contrary to on the Somarco’s website).
Report Check-InThere are two companies, this one and transportes austral which is located on the harbour after the Faro cafe point. Beware in high season as arriving at 16h none of the companies had space left for a car for the next day.
Somarco is the cheapest of the two, if you take the 12:30 ferry; otherwise it's almost the same price. In high season they have 3 ferries per day, one at 7h and one at 23:30 that are direct but more expensive, and one at 12:30 that goes by the fjords, is not direct but cheaper (this one should be booked several days before).
At 12:30 the price for a car is 34.300CLP, driver is included but not the other passengers (5700 each), whereas for the other two price is 48000CLP for the car, and driver has to pay too (9000 each). If you have a casa rodante the price depends of the length, 12000 per meter. Going at 7h with two persons driver included in a 6m van we paid 90000CLP.
Transportes Austral have 1 ferry per day at 9h, 55500 per car + 9200 for each driver and passenger, or 12900 per meter for casa rodantes.

Besides Samarco you can also find Naviera Austral. This company is right around the corner. They also have space for cars and they leave at 09:00 in stead of 10:30 (which you need to book beforehand) or 0:00 which, in summer, is easily booked on the day itself. Unfotunately we booked the 0:00 as we didn’t know there was a second company. They had space on the 09:00 boat, but once you have booked your ticket there is no refund. Keep that in mind.
Report Check-Inmake sure you check their website for availability even now - you might be lucky but no luck for us to buy a ticket on sunday for the monday ferry
Report Check-Innew prices please check photos if you can please book on line or you might not be able to go till the next day as there is no room ???
