Something not right?

Description

Camped here one night , it was free. (FEES APPLY as of July 2020). It’s close to road as well as close to creek, mountain biking , horse / hiking trails. Very quiet at night. There are two (lower and upper ) campsites, with gravel maintained RV pads each have about 5 spots, first come first serve. So if you come to the first campsite it will be on your left , the upper will be about 3 miles up the road on your right.

Latest Check-Ins

These campgrounds (lower and upper) are now $20 a night, or $10 if you have an America the Beautiful pass. Envelopes and drop box available at campground entrances. Though, at the upper campground at least, didn’t seem like others paid and they left early in the morning. Maybe they only check on the weekends? Either way, fees are a thing here now, unbeknownst to me, as it’s been 7 years since I came up here last.

Report Check-In

Road from Aspen by Sopris creek road is closed till 15th April even if there is no snow anywhere around. So it's not possible to enter the camping. The same from other side, there is a sign that road is closed 1 Dec - 15 April. The closure is right in front of the campings from both sides.

The lower camp area is 2 miles up a gravel road. A little bumpy, but they’re working on it. Camp site is no longer free but they didn’t have envelopes or a price listed, and nobody else looked like they paid so we risked it. It looks like there are some full time residents at a couple of the spots. Generators were constantly running, and the road right by the campsite was really busy. Super noisy, campsites are stacked on top of each other. Wouldn’t go back.

Group camp site. Plenty of space for big rigs, directly across is multiple areas for rent camping, which was very popular. Close to MTB trails and hiking to Thomas lake trail. Free range cows crossing most of road so be careful.

A few gravel pads, close together with a mountain bike trail and road right next to the site. Fairly busy area.
