Something not right?

Description

Iconic stopping point on road to Ushuaia.
Bakery, food and free WiFi. Reasonably priced and good.
Free bed available for weary cyclists if you ask.

Take a ticket to get served if it is in operation

Why is it iconic? Being the only such place within 100km certainly makes it very easy for reasonable people to overlook trivial deficiencies and so appreciate the warm atmosphere on a cold day

You could probably overnight on the street outside, but FAR nicer down on the lake shores (windy but).

This place needs no recommendation, it’s amazing for cyclists! But just wanted to thank Emilio for his kindness as we didn’t get to meet him.

Report Check-In

Great bakery and tables to sit and eat. WiFi available

Report Check-In

Yes, this has a rather industrial appeal now. But the products are well priced and the staff friendly. did not sleep here though. Needed a private place after 200k yesterday. They have free hot water and mate 4 everyone. :) never seen this in ARG.

It looks like the panaderia is in a new building rigtht in Front of the old one

Great empanadas. Nice ambience after a day of cycling. Very popular and very good. Reasonable prices.

Great place, warm & cosy, good coffee, delicious bread and sweets and free WiFi 😊

Report Check-In

fantástica.
coisas muito gostosas.
compre facturas(doces de todo tipo).
pessoal muito simpático.

Report Check-In

A must! great bread and facturas. Try "bola de fraile" con dulce de leche.

Came here on a recommendation.
Noisy and busy place with intermittent internet and few electric sockets.
Not sure what all the fuss is about. Reminds me of a works canteen.
The bread is nice though.

Report Check-In

personnel pas agréable, on nous a fait la tête tout le long (servi par le patron en personne pourtant). De plus, les pâtisseries n'ont rien d'exceptionnel. Les empanadas sont bons.

Report Check-In

Very kind Man Emilio! Also the other people that work there are amazing for showing us around and letting us stay

Amazing bakery! A must!

Great atmosphere. Friendly staff. Good wifi.

Report Check-In

Not the most incredible coffee (automatic machine and foam cups) but then I guess you’re almost at the end of the world! Still, lots of nice looking pastries and chocolates. Wifi was working but a little slow. Free hot water dispenser if you walk through the bakery to the door at the opposite entrance.

Amazing place with amazing people.

The facturas are lovely.

We enjoyed this place much.

cyclists friendly place!

Wow so much negativity about probably the most famous casa de ciclistas in the world! Maybe we need a separate listing for the cyclist accommodation, casa de armistad, and leave this one for the moaners?

This place is like a mirage in the desert after the backroads from porvenir through paso Bellavista. One of the best showers I’ve had on my trip in a clean wet room style bathroom. Empanadas and churros for dinner (plus a bag of free cheese bread!) and then a bed for the night out of the wind. Bedroom cleaner than many places I’ve paid to stay in! Pretty good WiFi from the seating area where the bikes are parked. It’s fascinating to read all the messages from the hundreds if not thousands of cyclists who have passed through, don’t forget to write in the guest book.

food fresh but nothing special.
We can’t understand this nescafe coffe from the machine.
Croudy at the weekend and the internet theoretically is here but doesn’t work.

Report Check-In

We only tried the chocolate that they sell which is okay. There is a great variety of pastries but it is all on the sugary side, we were kind of hoping to score some decent bread. Was rather relaxed when we were there, not too many people. Staff was friendly to us and gave us a chocolate to try without us asking for it. Ok for a brief stop.

All informations still valid @ 6 September 2018.

Absolutely obligatory stop at Tolhuin. very good atmosphere, free hot water and ideal to work with PC. wifi doesn't work to me, but anyway very recommended

Report Check-In

Only for fat pastry guzzling argentinians. The rest of the world can drop dead, is not welcome. Lousy coffee and to arrogant to even tell you the key for wifi.

Report Check-In

normal, average tasting bakery. it's alright but I don't know why they are so famous...

wifi works. pw still the same. Technically you can park in front of it over night. If there is lots of people in the morning they make you leave the parking lot though.

Report Check-In

Popular free accomodation for cyclists. Here is how it works: The bakery is open until midnight. Go to the counter and say "I am a cyclist, I need a place to stay." In a seperate building where they store tons of flour and make the bread they have a room with three beds. Basic, not very clean, with a heater (not tested), electricity. In this building is also a toilet and a shower (not tested). Hundreds of cyclists have been here. WiFi is only in the main building.

Report Check-In

Well worth the stop. I've had bread and pastries up and down ARG/CHL, simply the best each time!

Report Check-In

Good for the wifi and bathrooms but the bakery is just like any other.. nothing special about this one.. prices a little on the expensive side.

Report Check-In

agree. overrated bakery. nothing special at all but indeed iconic stop. their dulce de leche is quite good but some of the dessert feel "old" in your mouth. coffee is unfortunately from nescafe automatic machine. good wifi and it has indeed some good chocolate. try the dark almond one. delish!

Report Check-In

why a bakery? because I met Emilio, he's the owner of this bakery and he gave me a room where to stay, in fact that room is for all the travelers! it's called" Casa de la amistad" I still in shock! such a humble and nice person! ask for him and he will give you a big smile!

Report Check-In

We love a good bakery stop, but this place was overrated - cool atmosphere but really average food compared to others we've been to.

Report Check-In

Fabulous bakery, great coffee and well worth the visit! Saturday afternoon was packed though; three lines deep. Insanity 😉

Report Check-In

For us not worth it. A kind of to much business. At the opposite the food (backery stuff) was not was we expected. We had much better Food at different Backerystations. Even the Empanadas were much better at different Roadstops.

Report Check-In

very bussy, big panaderia , good bread and sweets. free fast wifi. panaderia = [Password removed by moderator.]

Fabulous Pan in our opinion. Well worth the drive by.

Report Check-In

Was closed when we went there, looked like they are renovating.

Report Check-In

Yum. Place was packed on a Sunday but well worth the wait. Wifi did not work for us.

Report Check-In

Called Panaderia La Union. It's a nice stopover, but the internet is unreliable. Remember to take a ticket to get served :) free hot water from the dispensers, so bring your Thermos and mate cups.
