Description

Here you can rent two kayaks from Choto Pescador ("the original fisherman"). It's the grey aluminium hut on the leftside of the yellow restaurant 'Feliz Pinguino'. These are the only rental kayaks at this beach at this time. We can definitely recommend going by kayak instead of taking one of the crowded (and actually more expensive) boat tours!

We went to all the islands with penguins (1 Hour) and were able to get within a couple meters of them. Its best to start kayaking at around 7-9 in the morning, because then you will see a lot of them getting into the water to hunt. Also better because the boat tours start at 10:30, so you will be alone until then.

Tip: go to the penguin colony on the very left side (looking at the ocean) first, (it's the easiest to get close to with the lowest waves) because the boat owners arriving at ~10am told us that they will call conaf if we go close to that colony. Anyway we took a lot of selfies with those penguins before that!

We had a great time watching penguins with Choto. We went the night before to set it up, he told us we'll see in the morning if the waves are not to high. He joined us for a private tour (there is a 2 person kayak now).

Lovely guy, great views, 10/10 would recommend. Best thing we did so far.

We arrived in the afternoon to reserve the kayak for next morning. Choto was super friendly, advised us to go the same evening as the weather would be better with less wind and waves. So we agreed on 7pm, after the tours are all gone. Indeed the water was relatively calm and we could paddle to 4 different rocks with penguins. It’s not far so we had plenty of time to watch the animals. Choto said that we can take as much time as we want. He offered us to park the van on the grass next to his house, a bit up from the beach. There are baños, they are closed at nighttime. There were 2 other couples with tents, so also tent camping is possible. We paid 10.000 pesos pp for the kayak, we did not negotiate. Camping was free. Choto brought us freshly grilled seafood as a snack for dinner, really a funny and kind person. It‘s not spectacular kayaking, but the whole experience is perfect and we can only recommend it. Next morning btw there was fog and rain indeed and we were happy we went the evening before.

At the left of Restaurant Costa Pacifico. I would only recommend it if you have some kayak experience. He sends you out on your own. So you are responsible for your own safety. The waters between the islands are relatively calm. Very nice guy and I would not like it if he gets into trouble because of overconfident visitors.

We had a great time with Choto, what a kind and funny guy! Kayakking to the penguin islands on the rough sea was a cool adventure. Afterwards we drank tea with Choto and he showed us around in his house full of beach treasures :)
We paid 15.000 CLP.

Great way to watch pinguins. for 7000pp, we had wet suits, rescue jacket and even a 5L bottle of hot water to rinse ourselves. We saw whales in the bay and ask for a tour to see them. Choto organized us a boat at 15000pp for 45 minutes. Great experience, highly recommended !!

i arrived in the evening and talked to the guy for the next kayaks the next morning. The sea was quite rough but I did see some penguins! for me it was 7000 for one hour, between 7-8

Great activity! There arev3 kajaks now for rent. We paid 6000 pp for an hour and had a great time from 7.00-8.00 am. Magical with the sun coming through the mist, we saw a lot of pinguins and a sealion as well.

What a wonderful guy! Unfortunately, there are still only two kayaks and we were with the three of us. Kayaking is possible between 07.00 - 10.00 am or in the late afternoon. We took the first boat tour with Choto instead. We were a bit wary, because of the many tourists, but the tour was still a lot of fun, because of all his stories about the penguins. It doesn't matter if you take the boat or kayak, you'll see a lot of penguins and other beautiful birds.

What a nice guy.
Price is now 6.000 per kayak per hour. Comes with wetsuit and lifejacket.
We had our dog with us and it was okay.
General rule is 10-15 meters from the penguins/islands.

Thisnis much better than the tour. Free to do as you please. We did it in one hour.

Highly recommend!

We wanted to rent kayaks, found the right place, but no kayaks. Anyway, we didn't even ask because the waves very very high in the evening and maybe even bigger in the morning. We can't imagine us on the kayaks in that waves. We took the last tour in bout instead, and it was nice in the evening sun.

This fisherman rents out 2 kayaks with wetsuit etc for 5000 each. Better ask him in the evening since he goes fishing very early. We could just take the stuff in the morning and slide the money under his door. Amazing experience. It was just the two of us and a lot of penguins especially at the island on the left side. Please don't go to close to the penguins and bother them (since they already do that with the boats). A lot of tourists arrived at 10am but we were already done.

We took a kayak from 8am to 9 am and it was great ! so cool to see the pinguins and Juan is really nice ! 5000 per person per hour.

Such a great option to see the penguins. we went early morning at 8, nobody on the water, calm seas. Juan is great, we ended up hanging out with him and he invited us for lunch. He knows tons about the sea and fish, has collected a lot from the sea. He really loves it there and rightfully so. Come here for the beautiful beach, more than for penguins. 5000 pp per hour

Chodo is very friendly if you show an interest. The most penguins are in the evening and morning, but the sea is more choppy in the afternoon so sunrise is probably the best time. only one wetsuit so you can get very cold.

Very cheap and in our opinion the best way to discover the penguins. We saw more than 7 dolphins and one of them was 1 meter next to our kayak.Highly recommended.
