Here it's the famous site. The road is good, also without a 4x4, depending by direction of the wind. If the wind blows from south, it can be difficult for the saltwater coming from the lake.

This is Dalol: the multicoloured - not from this earth-like - place. After our Danakil / Erta Ala adventure, we joined a tourgroup to visit Dalol.
It rained in the days before our visit. The road is not difficult, but the whole saltplain was now one big - 30cm deep and 15km long - salt lake. I was happy to drive a 4x4. Ask the guides before visiting what the condition of the plains & lake is, and decide for yourself if your willing to drive through a salt lake :).
