We boondocked a little further down the beach. To access the beach further down without having to drive on the beach we took the street on the right just before the picnic tables and port-a-potties. We drove over the cattle grids and camped on the beach, suitable for most vehicles, no need for a 4 wd. If you want to pitch a tent, please keep in mind lots and lots of cow poo! Oh and the cows came for a visit during the night!

Better camping in winter time. Fewer bugs. Great fishing. Not much driftwood for fires.
Report Check-InStayed here overnight. Gorgeous sunset. Woke up at 0530 to an infestation of mosquitos inside. Never seen so many in our lives.
Report Check-InGreat spot! Really pretty! I didn’t stay the night because I got there around noon and felt like driving into Texas since it started raining around 1:30pm.
Report Check-InNice beach. Packed and makes it easy to drive on! Good enough internet signal to play online video games!! Lots of shells. Water and sand not as good as Corpus Christi but still very enjoyable. There are a few big rigs here!
Report Check-InStayed here in a 2wd van no problem and drove all the way down the beach as it’s hard packed. Beach can get pretty littered with trash so please use the dumpster and bins available. Porta potties we’re exceptionally clean when we were there.
There’s definitely some folks that do extended stays here and some locals fishing on the beach with quite extravagant setups, so prepare for that. Loads of tar balls if you walk west down the beach towards the hurricane damage. Pretty sad to see and it will get stuck in your shoes.
Overall though nice beach and we ended up staying an extra day.
Secluded area on the beach. Car camped here and no one was around it was beautiful waking up to the waves crashing and the sunrise!
Report Check-InWe stayed at a spot just before crossing the cattle grate. The sand looked soft but held our weight without any issues. A nice private option just next to the main lot for Rutherford beach which was pretty crowded with visitors and other campers when we arrived.
