There are several areas for free camping along this good gravel road (I assume it is BLM land), suitable for all vehicles and tents. With smaller rigs you can get further away from the main road.
If you love backcountry roads, you can continue on this road to Lake Pleasant and Phoenix. A few kilometers beyond these coordinates it turns into a dirt road, not advisable or even impassible in wet weather, but it is extremely scenic. After the Castle Hot Springs Resort it is again a gravel road. Total distance from turn-off on Hwy 74 near Morristown to Lake Pleasant is about 55 km.
Why? By checking in after you’ve visited a place you let others know this place is still functional. You can also add or correct any information.
Got here on a Saturday and there were a lot of generator 5th wheels / long pull behinds around. Basically all of them left by Sunday afternoon. It gets muddy if it rains. Plenty of spots further back in off the road, so don't be discouraged if it looks busy from the road when you show up.
Report Check-InThis is Arizona State trust land and a permit to use it was easily obtained on their website. $21 for the family pass.
This is a beautiful lush green site with quite a bit of wildlife. It is fairly quiet aside from generators and jet aircraft out of the Air Force Base.
Nice place before going to Pheonix. Quiet place in the middle of plenty of cactus.
Report Check-InWe stopped 2.5 miles short of this spot on North Castle Hot Springs Road (about 1/3 miles before the pavements ends) lots of winding gravel trails 100 meters East is the pavement. Easy pull thru access for any size rig. There is even a Class A in here but yet still very quiet and private! And it’s only 8 minutes from Highway 60 and 5 minutes from Highway 74!! For a late night stop to spend the night and enjoy a glorious Sunset/Sunrise..... this spot is sweet!!
