Description

Army Corps of Engineers made this beautiful campground on Wright Patman Lake. Easy access for all types of vehicles, but down several miles of dirt road. Quiet, lakefront. Plenty of parking (here in the off season). Free camping. Some sites have fire pits.

Stayed one night. Super buggy and really no fire rings around. It was pretty muddy as well that sticks to everything. Decent cell service. Didn’t swim but a bunch of kids were. Worked for an overnight.

Nice campground area near the clean town of Maud. We did fine driving our Promaster Van down the dirt road. There were two other camps there, one of them looked like a permanent resident. No one bothered us. A cop car drove through around 10pm but didn’t make a stop. Great views!

BEWARE. Deep ruts are present down by the water. Would've been a great spot to sleep, if I didn't need to get pulled out in the morning. If you come in late at night, keep a sharp eye out for the ruts.

Nice area, would be questionable if it was wet. Doesn’t seen like a lot of designated camp spot just park where ever. Town is nearby about 5 miles. Peaceful.
Cell phone service T-Mobile about 2 bars and same with Verizon.

Really nice free campground. The dirt road in is about 3 miles and very washboarded, but I had no problems making it in. Most sites are around & within a loop, there were about 7 stone fire rings in this area. I got a spot right on the lake, but many are not. If you drive past this area, there is space for 1-2 more campers and a bit more private. During my stay Tuesday - Friday, there was 1 tent in this back area & 4 other groups around the loop. Instead of turning right into the campground, if you continue going there is a boat ramp.

Great free lakeside parking/camping. No one was here with us. There is trash can and a port-a-potty, which we didn’t use. Fire pits available as well.

This was off a beautiful campsite. Right on the lake with amazing views and the sound of the water lapping at the shore all night. It was quite a bit of dirt and gravel road to get there but it was worth it. The sites are pretty far apart so it feel private. There were two other groups there camping and I still felt we had privacy. Sunset, sunrise and the moon over the lake were breathtaking. There were porta potties and trash cans and one bar of verizon service.

Stayed 4 days. Descent place, although it was full of trash everywhere. We spent our mornings picking up trash. Had a nice spot in the lake. No amenities. There is a porta-potty. No pit toilets.

arrived late last night in the rain. we took the easiest spot we could find right on the water and woke up to a pristine view. only spotted one other rv. lots of trees down from recent storms.
