** Just a correction: when entering Turkey, go to the building on your LEFT, not right.
And on Iranisn side, they din't accept cash for fuel tax, so a local/fixer will pay with their Iranian card for you. They ask 10USD for that, I've paid 7 and he was happy.

IRAN >>TURKEY
Iranian side less than 1 hour. Border was quite empty. Bring a copy of your CPD, guy that charges fuel tax wants one. I didn't have, there's a small shop that makes it. Fuel tax guy first wanted to charge my motorcycle for 20 liters tank. No way, it only has 13.5. He said it's registered like 20 in their system, obviously a lie. After arguing, he "found" my bike online. Still, no way of lowering the 1.8€/liter tax. Get the receipt and go inside building. Find customs, one person registers your fuel payment, other stamps your carnet out. Then go outside, walking, to one of the exit booths and hand your passport and visa. Then you're good to go to the Turkish side. Stop just before the gate, an Army guy checks your passport again.
Turkish side: park the bike/vehicle and go inside building on the right. Go to police/passport signal and stamp in/digital photo. Then out, go with bike to one of the booths. Customs guys first wanted me to take all panniers and go inside to scsn. I said panniers attached to the bike. He then made me show everything, even flipped the pages of my book. Repacked and rode 50m ahead, to X-Ray. Lady technician wanted me to take everything again out of bike, due to "radiation levels". I said I'd just unpacked/packed everything, so no way. I just took the duffle bag out, she agreed. She took my pasdport and bike's registration (no CPD needed). After X-Ray, was told to ride to the other side of X-Ray building where customs guy told me to wait (1 hour), because they were checking my bike in the system. They offered me chair and tea/water. After 1 hour, I was told to ride the bike further ahead where, for the 3rd time, customs guys told me to take everything out of the bags and lay on the dusty floor, for the dogs to sniff everything. I said they don't have methodology and are very inefficient! 3 times unpacking/repacking within 100 meters! Well, after laying everything on the floor, under the sun, they took another hour to bring the dog (cannel is in front...). All the time, very friendly, but completelly inefficient. After dog job done, I was taken inside building to sign a paper they said was clearing my bike. Got a copy. Then was released to finally go. At the last gate/booth, they ask again to see passport and bike's registration ("triptip"). In an empty border, it took me 3 hours on Turkish side. 4 hours in total.
I had bought Turkish insurance online, before hand, and this heloed, because sometimes insurance person is not at the border. This is the link to the insurance: fill in the form, send it and contact them on whatsapp. They are very fast, you pay through a secure link and voilà.

Don't let yourself be ripped off, they wanted 1.8 euros per liter, I insisted on 1.2 and saved 90 euros after heavy back and forth at the end

Relaxed Border, 2 hours, passengers have to leave the car and walk through customs. Attention: there is a guy on iranian side who is not customs but is allowed to stamp the carnet. He than offered help getting sim card in next small village, dont trust him or anybody there, looks like he is very trustworthy but is not, also the guy in the telephone shop is not! Get a sim away from the border, there is no shortage finding a english speaking local to help

Turkey --> Iran
Don't wait outside in your car but park and go inside the building for passport control. We were the only not Turkish nor Iranian people. It looked like they didn't know how to handle our Italian passport. We had to wait a long time until the police officer received a message back from I don't know who. Once you are stamped out you have to go to another office (in the same building) called "Tescil" for your vehicle. If everything is ok they put something in the system and you are free to go, they don't give you any paper. We had to pay a penalty because apparently the car can stay in Turkey for 6 months since the first date of entry. It doesn't matter if during these 6 months you exit the country (with the vehicle). We stayed in Turkey 60 days, went to Georgia/Armenia for 3 months and then back to Turkey for 45 days. We didn't have any problem as people because we stayed less than 90 days in 180 days period but for the car is a different story. Double check when you enter Turkey if you are not sure. The penalty was 785 TL (about 27€ now).
We could finally exit Turkey and cross the gate to Iran. First 2 military officers had a look inside the van and took our tomatoes. Not because you are not allowed to take them into Iran but because they wanted them (no joke, they really did). Then we went to an official post guard, handed passports and carnet and after a while we've been told to go inside the building (with all the papers). Park and go (someone will surely come with you showing where to go). Passport and visa control, questions about our travel plans, all very kind and friendly. No health insurance asked and no COVID certificate or PCR. This didn't take long. Then it's carnet time (in another office, they will guide you). They have to put signatures and stamps a lot of times, all in farsi, you must ask what they're doing of you want to know. They are very relaxed and it can take a while but they offered us apples, chocolate and tea while waiting. We didn't have to show any car insurance and didn't pay any fixer, they tried but nobody was pushy.
We've been given a paper for the temporary Iranian plates because they asked how long we were going to stay in Iran (we said the same time as our visa allows: 45 days).
When you exit they will stop you another couple of times and have a quick look into your car but nothing thorough. You very likely will miss some stamp or signature, just go back and forth until they're not satisfied. And that's it, welcome to Iran!

2 hours to pass the Iran border. Some one paid for me 13.050.000 rials for 75 litres of gas-oil. After that, he wanted more money but I have not pay more.
About 45 minutes to entry Turkey. No X Ray!

Still quite disorganized, a bit difficult to find the next step. Fuel tax (Benzin) was 7200 Rials per Liter. I said 60 L capacity (they looked at the car; I have 90 plus canisters) and they charged 50. Then ended up charging 45L, as I was short of 20.000 Rial in Cash :) very kind.
Turkish border: the X-ray machine is for empty cars!! They expect you to completely empty your van/ caravan/ camper 🥺 leave your belongings on the road while driving through. I was lucky that it was broken, and they did an extremely thorough hand search.
When entering turkey, there is nothing. Next possibility to buy food/ SIM/.. is in Yüksekova.

Report Check-In

Be sure you have an insurance and visa before you enter Turkey. We didn't have but they helped us with this. Very friendly and helpful. We even slept at the border. No diesel tax.

Iran side a bit disorganized but also friendly and helpful
