Description

Awesome quiet spot on the dirt road that leads to the hot spring. The view is awesome and right next to the river. Far away from the highway makes it quiet. You can cross the River to the hot springs on the island for a soak if you are the adventurous type. There is a fire pit but no other amenities. Most vehicule should make it when its dry. Note that the bridge from the west entrance is CLOSED. Use the east entrance.

Lovely views. As mentioned previously, road is bumpy but I’d say doable in most vehicles with some clearance as long as you’re slow and careful. Someone with a Big rig was here before I arrived. In mid April the final portion of the road was covered in water but still a few nice camp spots accessible. The river was quite high, just above the waist. Also quite fast. I did not attempt the crossing to the hot spring but one other guy did successfully. Bit sketchy but doable if you’re careful.

I was here mid September. Pulled a 16' teardrop down to the river x-ing and camped. Crossing was wadeable and the hot springs were great. Everything was pretty clean. No bugs in September. Worthy!

Sweet spot off the highway, short walk to the hot spring. The river crossing isn’t to bad totally worth it!! The hot spring is big and clean, really so wonderful!! The bugs were sooooo bad at night tho. Sick stars!!

great, quiet spot to spent the night! only a few minutes off the highway, lots of level places to choose from. there were bugs, but nothing that bug spray couldn't fend off pretty well.

river was flowing too fast right now to get to the hot spring, unless you're really brave. we saw a group of 3 guys try to cross and then decide against it. it was up to about his waist, and flowing too fast to safely cross.

Stopped here for the night. It was perfect with plenty of spots to choose from. There were already a couple of outfits there. Bring bug spray as the mosquitoes were out in force!

some of the best hot springs around. one large pool and a couple smaller ones closer to the river. camping in the area is limited on the east entrance side. few are on on west side and not real level.

Report Check-In

must cross a river to get to the hot spring. water level was thigh-crotch high. good water sandals a must for river crossing and to avoid scalding your feet in the hot springs. water is hot and the area is dry and exposed. not ideal for summer days.

Place rules. Road in sucks after the big flat area. Pick up your trash.

Took east entrance since west is closed due to bridge falling apart. Coming in the east way, you’ll hit a fork in the road at the bridge to go left or right. You wanna go right and you’ll come to the sign that basically just says “clean up after you camp and don’t start wildfires”— past this you’ll come to some areas that are pretty big, level, and with fire pits. We kept going a little farther but the water was high so we didn’t even attempt to look for the river crossing to the island hot springs. Past the big campsites though it gets pretty bumpy. I would only recommend high clearance vehicles, want 4x4 if wet for sure. I wouldn’t say this ISN’T a good spot for big RVs UNLESS you have a sprinter van/camper van/something bigger like that with the high clearance and 4x4– our 26ft sprinter with both of those did fine. Very beautiful valley views right by the river, but not much shade to stay cool in the summers.

Bumping road coming in but we made it fairly close to the hot springs in our promaster. We wouldn't have made it as far if it was wet and muddy. If you have 4wd and high clearance you can drive to the island with the hot springs if the waters low. When we were here it was really low and the river was dry to cross. Main hot springs pool was really hot and murky, looks like there are smaller pools that would be cooler and clearer if the water was higher. Looks like this spot is popular with hunters this time if year.

Amazing hot springs right off the highway. There are a few primitive camping spots or pull offs with fire rings. Great place to rest for the night. You might have issues getting back here with 2WD low clearance vehicles, as the road is rough. Entrance to the hot spring is through a creek. It looks like a few people have driven to the island with the hot spring. The creek was about waist deep when we crossed with mildly strong rapids, but it was well worth it! Natural and free hot springs in the middle of rolling hills and grass lands.

Very beautiful spot, with lots of room, amazing sunsets. Road in was very narrow, and getting to the back camp spots looked a bit sketchy with low clearance 2WD. LOTS of bugs (flies and mosquitos), and dog got sprayed by skunk on top of ridge, but otherwise great spot.

did not camp, but beautiful location. high clearance 4wd can continue down road and cross river to 2 more camp sites right at the spring

One of the coolest Hot Springs we’ve been to, camped right by the river, there are fire pits and our dogs could just roam around. Hot springs are in the middle of the river on a little island that you have to wade in knee deep water to get to but it is totally worth it!

Some very nice campsites at the Malheur River near Juntura Hot Springs. The dirt road is a bit bumpy and may be impassable when wet. The hot spring is on an island in the Malheur River (dry crossing is possible at low water level) with a big pool at 99 °F and a smaller pool at 106°F. The hot water bubbles out of the ground. Maybe the big pool is hotter during the warmer months as we had a very cold night around 5°F in the night and 30°F during daytime.

Lots of room to set up either a tent or rv. Wanted to check out the hot springs but according to the map its on an island in the middle of the river on the bend. Didn't feel like wading out there to check it out.

great camping spot and hot springs mentioned are wonderful. saw antelope walking along ridge while I soaked and also saw Osprey catching fish in river....ONLY enter road on east side of river bridge...
