Description

In Korogh we got the permit from PECTA. They explained us, that it will be possible to reach on this route Murgab, if we would always take the track close to the hills, otherwise we would get stuck in the mud. We followed their advise, but got stuck in the mud several times. It took us eight hours to get out of it and we finally had to return to the checkpoint. Before July you can only go as far as the first lake and not further. You should not go alone, even when you have a good 4WD car.

Latest Check-Ins

Rode through is late June on bicycles. We were able to cycle the whole way. Mud in this area is slippery but not sticky. Off and on for a few km's. We did have trouble near Darva Tash Basin, however. It snowed on us for 30minutes and the roads became sticky peanut butter mud.

Report Check-In

I had only a 3m stretch of mud on the whole route. Nothing really to mention.
There are multiple River crossings. As long as you have some ground clearance, I think even a 2 wheel drive car can do this.

But it seems reviews from the last years sound different. I would recommend to head into the Tourist info in Murgab. They even called the local ranger to give me the status of the road.
(I think for the rest of this year it will be fine, as long as there are no heavy rains. Then most of the snow on the mountains was already melted

Report Check-In

Beginning of July 2023 we were driving from the Checkpoint Kargush in direction to Murghab. There were a lot of swampy areas and river crossings along the two lakes Kuli Kukjigit. We got stuck once due to bad line choice.

Report Check-In

No problems along the whole way between Khargush and Jarty Gumbez now in August. We did the trip with our truck, took three days slowly driving and enjoying. Especially along the lake Zorkul the track is very rocky and dusty because of the strong wind.
Without 4x4 and not enough clearance it might be difficult to pass all the riverbeds and soft areas.

Report Check-In

Very little mud in late July. Maybe only 2 or 3 sections which weren’t much of a problem. Quite a few rocky river crossings, 3 or 4 of which were difficult on a motorcycle.
