Something not right?

Description

Perfect place for a little check up in the middle of those very rough roads. Willy is a very good and trustfull mechanic. He will do everything from oil change to more specific mecanical or engine work.
Work we had done with him :
changing front shocks, repairing my loosen steering knuckle arm, changing all kind of rubbers, greasing the knuckle (I am not sure of the english technical terms)...
You can work with him, and check or learn from his job.
His workshop is correctly furnished, and prices very low.
He is a friend and official mechanic of Jaime (camping Guadalupe), and the workshop is just a few hundred meters from the camping.

if you go there, please say hello from Lisa y Lorenzo, los franceses!

Don't go there!!! we came to change our clutch, and he never managed it... we had to get to the other tailler, ruben, to fix it. he put everything down (I was helping because his worker had had a rough night...) and in the end he had lost screws and it wasn't working at all!!! a complete day to get to a point our RV was worse than when we arrived...
The other one is the real professional, Willy is a nice guy but not a goid mechanic...

Report Check-In

Nice guy. My main problem was the I-joint of the drive shaft. Also managed to replace a broken shock and add a leaf spring. Surprisingly he had all the right parts, especially considering that a much larger shop in a bigger town had to order the shocks from Lima before. However, they seemed to fit ok enough to work for now.
His thing is to press everyone’s steering arm. My steering was loose so I let him do it, but he admitted himself that most cars have this problem once they are 2 yers old. So you’ll probably be fine without it, because he will likely suggest it to you as well.

Prices very reasonable. His helping student was out, so I worked with him. Put on your mechanics coverall and get dirty. :)
Location was a little off just by a short walk.

Willy will help you with everything. He's a bit pushy and might try to convince you of something which isn't really necessary. Just calm him down. He'll try and ask for a lot more money than the repair is worth, but he's willing to negotiate.

Report Check-In

Willi is eager to the point of being pushy. He insisted the steering linkage knuckle joints on our truck were worn and needed to be removed and pressed, else they might break, and we'd lose control of the car. I did not allow him to proceed, saying that if there were bad parts, I'd rather replace them with new ones. Also, the steering felt perfectly fine. So, we went to Autolac in Lima for a second opinion, and they confirmed that all was well, nothing to do.

Report Check-In

We broke the mounting bracket for the rear stabiliser bar and he welded it back together, also repaired the collapsed knuckle joint that caused the problem. After which he tightened up all the tie rod ends with new grease new rubbers. Charged us 300 Sol, we were happy with this as we thought we would need Toyota parts but Jamie said it was overpriced. Jamie will go with anyone staying at Guadalupe to negotiate best price. But recommended for repairing the seemingly impossible.
