Established camping, yet under construction during our stay off-season. Very friendly owner who provided a fire place, shelter including seats/tables and a place for our van. Price CLP 14.000. Hot showers. No WiFi. Sheltered pool is under construction but looks promising for a nice stay during summer. Very calm place. Recommended.

Nice place, very quiet. From this place you can walk to the light house by foot within one hour, we saw 3 Condors on the top of the hill.

Nice established RV and tent camping. Private and stall showers available. Picnic tables and fire pits at each site.

Bunnies everywhere. WiFi offered.

Cannon Beach is hard to find wild camping so this is good option.

Van in tent site with no hookups was $32 I think. $47 with water no electricity? More for electric?

Walking distance to the main drag of town.

Nice little café with friendly owners and good coffee. At this time of the year most places were still closed on the Carretera Austral but this café was open and had some tasty cakes.

Quiet at night but popular place for hiking and climbing so you'll get a full parking lot by 10am or so on the weekends. Stayed 3 nights no problem. Recycling and trash is here. Toilet was kinda gross. Pinthouse Pizza nearby was awesome. Twin Liquors nearby had free tastings :)

Milyoti entrance gate to South Luangwa NP. Opening hours 0600-1800h.

We were charged:
300 kwacha per foreign adult
150 kwacha per foreign vehicle
Fee valid for one calendar date.

Fewer vehicles/tourists here than in the Mfuwe Sector, but we saw lots of animals - including five lions and a hyena within the first half an hour! We actually didn't consider it less scenic as the other reviewer suggested.

WiFi now available throughout. Mostly fairly decent. Rooms still simple, but hot water, and clean. Snack bar is decent, with a large variety of food, and decent portion sizes.

We started hiking at 7am from this point. We met only few local kids during our hike to the top. Because most of tourist do not take this route any more. They come to top from the other side.
But we saw hundred of tourists at the top at 10am.

Very good value. I was charged with 150 pesos(about 4.2USD) for single occupancy in a 3-bed room with good WiFi and private bathroom. The owner was friendly.

Can only confirm what others have said! Very special place, friendly and helpful staff, extremely clean, hot showers, very well equipped DIY kitchen with gas stove, bbq, utensils, etc., beautiful views, excellent breakfast for 35 bob/person - we were lucky to have stumbled upon this place before finding this app. Contact them ahead of time if you need to park a larger car as there is limited space on site. 10/10 would stay again.

Grand parking derrière le restaurant. Personnellement nous avons très peu dormi à cause d'une douzaine de chien sur place qui aboie toute la nuit. Mais nous étions content de trouver un endroit pour la nuit avant d'attaquer les grands cols.

They keeping water (available only after a lot of rain) in a watertank. Highly recommend place to watch Kängurus, they were always around us. Absolutely amazing there.

Very cool place to stay next to the red sand and a beautiful view from the mountains. Thorns are a pain but easy to avoid at least for us now.
Little down the road a water tank which allows animals to drink from but has free access to get some water to do your dishes or some laundry. Great place! Windy but it stopped around 08:00pm

Easy as described. We arrived late the night before when the border was closed and the police let us camp under the mango trees behind their station. No facilities but a nice spot. Border opens at 6:30 a.m.

Wheels were disinfected but surprisingly when I asked if it was for free (expecting to be asked for $10 or something), the guy said yes and I was never asked for money. The passport guy asked for $10 for the stamp but I just said no and he dropped the issue. Overall pretty smooth although it took a little time.

We didn’t stop here to get registered on the way into DRC since we already had our stamps. We did briefly meet the immigration officer the night before though and he seemed friendly – offered us camping on his lawn and when we said we were looking for a hotel instead he got one of his officers to show us one. This officer was super helpful. The hotel was locked and the hard of hearing owner sleeping but he found a neighbour who knew how to get in and sort us out.

The road crossing from Boko (Republic of Congo) to Lwozi (DRC) is truly terrible – worst road I’ve come across along the route from England so far.

To Boko: Good tarmac road

Boko to RoC Border Post: Really bad road for around 22km then great gravel piste for final 14km or so. The 36km took us almost four hours, including getting stuck in mud once and having to dig ourselves out. It looked like the final 14km was newly built and continued directly north so maybe there’s a new road that doesn’t go via Boko. Worth asking around, a truck driver did seem to indicate there was an alternative.

RoC to DRC Border Posts: Only about 11km but took us around 4 hours, partly due to getting stuck once (grounded in mud) and having to wait for a truck to pull us out. Even without this it would have taken a couple of hours.

DRC Border Post to Lwozi: Just under 60km of quite mixed road. A few good bits and others that were terrible. We didn’t get stuck but easily could have in the long muddy sections near Lwozi and there were lots of sections with very deep ruts where we had to go well below walking pace. Took us about 5 hours in total.

From Lwozi: After the boat the road is much better. A few bad sections but nothing like this.

Note that all the above was done in a Suzuki Grand Vitara which is a 4x4 but has quite low ground clearance (we used low range a lot and definitely wouldn’t have wanted to be in a 2wd). A land cruiser would probably do it faster but we didn’t actually see any other normal cars – just a couple of massive trucks and the occasional motorbike.

Also don’t let me put you off. It was a great crossing and we’re glad to have done it, just be prepared for a bit of pain!

What a warm welcome from Albert and Estee, we couldn’t have felt more welcome anywhere else. Lovely campsite right on the beach with the cleanest ablution blocks we have had on our trip. Their local knowledge was good, close to Livingstonia so could go up the mountain for a day. You must have Estee’s pancakes for breakfast simply delicious. Nice swimming on the beach. All campsites have power points and a wash up area.
