Just through after a good rain storm and it was wet! From Ndende to border we had numerous deep puddles (up to 700mm) and a detour around a broken truck for bonus points 😉. Not counting the three hours to get around the truck we spent 3 hours to get 40km to the border! First 10km inside RC was still bad with our deepest puddle of the day (mid thigh on my 1.86m frame) but all quite straight forward. After is rough gravel to Nyanga but a pleasure after the water holes. RC side seemed drier.

4x4 pick-ups, 3 axle trucks and motor bikes all doing the run today. We drive a Unimog.

Beautiful grassland countryside, pity no animals.

Entrance fee for a village is 200 birr now, mandatory guide is another 400 birr.
We went to Gamole village on our own, but the (friendly) people on the "entrance" refused to let us in without a guide and ticket from konso tourist/guide office.
Maybe it works in other villages to pay the locals there- but not in this one :-(

Very nice RV park. Advertised as being for snowmobilers & snowbikers, so a bit of noise, but not bad. There is noticeable road noise from the highway.

Quite a steep hill getting in. 4WD/AWD in winter is advisable. 3-way (15/30/50) sites as well as unserviced. Unserviced sites aren't open in the winter. Water lines aren't insulated so can freeze. There's a heat gun at the office for thawing. Temps were going to be too low for my outside water hose, so just filled my water tank & will use that. Then refill the fresh tank before I leave.

Fantastic view from the ridge sites.

Nice, helpful staff. Wifi is paid only. Good LTE+ cell reception though.

We went there and after 100m met 2 guards in a small house in the road. we didn't have bolivianos (100/person) so the guy was ok to take our Chilean pesos. We had a look on internet to know the exchange rate. Firstly he asked for 14000 Chilean pesos per person, which is huge! So we came back in our car to leave when he told us we will find a solution as we only wanted to go to the hot spring and see the village. At more than 4000m I was not feeling well enough to hike. He then offered us to pay only 10000 chilean pesos for 2, which was quite honest. In the park there is several hot springs, some are free, other are 30 bolivianos per person. So if you don't have bolivianos and want to go to the park, you now know that it's possible, you can even negociate the price if you don't stay so long in the park.

very efficient and competent place in case you are in trouble with your truck. is an oficial ZF trader. our truck, MB 917 AK, built in 1996, had been repaired by a well educated worker. at first he said, "we don't need a diagnose tool. we will have a self-made diagnose by eyes, ears, experience". (repair all kind of trucks not only old ones). maybe the coordinates not exactly. but is directly on the other side by Mercedes Benz, which could not help, no connection possible for their diagnose tool. 💥

Small parking lot and right next to a reasonably busy road.
No signs that said you couldn't stay overnight and we didn't have any trouble.
We parked by my pinmark which was behind the pickup parking spots to be out of the way and further from the road.

When we arrived and parked there was 1 SUV in the lot. Seeing as it was late and raining heavily this was suspicious. The SUV then left and I believe the same one returned twice (had a headlight out so it was easy to identify) and drive right up close to our rig and then left immediately. This seemed really weird so we just decided to find a local Walmart.

From other people's descriptions I would guess that this could be a shady spot for people to meet up at night. Won't be going back.

Got stuck in the sand. Watch out! Better for 4WD which we don’t have. Also Better to have someone walk ahead and make sure where you’re driving is okay. Awesome man helped haul us out with his pickup. Pretty place despite some broken bottles/trash. Didn’t stay the night though.

I slept here last night. I felt safe, the restrooms were clean, road noise from the highway but otherwise a good place to get your 8 hours. I arrived in my Ford E350 cargo van at 8pm and left at 8am. No one bothered me.

I passed there but I couldn't see anything that wasn't fenced. Didn't wanna risk getting in a private property after opening some gate.

Still Chil$ 12000/person. To see this penguin for us is totally worth the money and though we support this place.
15 km gravel road (coming from north) was in very good condition, seemed that the grader has just made the road.
