Away from main road with very minimum local traffic. Fairly level and peaceful. A little dusty

The way was very littered. We were there in the late afternoon, felt very uncomfortable and therefore didn't stay.

Not a comfortable place, but fine for one night. There's rubbish lying around, but there's a place that's fine.

Stayed 3 nights. Very secluded campsite a bit outside of Kigoma. No network here at all. Wifi only at the reception which is quite a bit of a walk from the campsite. Charged 20,000 Tzs for a vehicle per night. The campsite is down by the lake and has toilet/shower facilities (cold water), a BBQ and dishwashing station with running water and a store to protect groceries from the monkies. Lake Tanganyika is currently completely flooded (04/2024) so the beach was nowhere to be seen; but the campsite was lovely nonetheless and we were able to access the water for a refreshing swim.

Stayed here on a friday night. Parking was decently occupied due to the free parking here to access the city. There was one RV stationed here as well. Police would drive around the lot and did not bother individuals here. Lots of noise and activity till late night.

We are glad we found Hostal de Sal as it is the cheapest option in this area. 2 person double room cost us only 100 bol. There is a shared bathroom with warm water and two toilets, relieable WIFI (streamed movies with no issues) and the rooms look simply amazing as the walls and furnitures are made of salt. In addition, you can order breakfast (drink, bread, egg and yam) or dinner (vegetable soup for instance) for 15 bol.

Don't let yourself be fooled by the outside look of the building! Contact the owner via Whatsapp +59167931074, because she normaly works during the day and arrives at the hostel in the evening (around 4-5pm). She is very friendly. We already arrived at midday and the building was empty. When we contacted the owner, we were permitted to enter and take a room by ourselves! Also we were allowed to put our two bicycles inside for the night.

Of course, it is not perfect. The bed felt a bit like a crater (the sheets were clean), the shower seems old and the toilets (without toilet paper) are to be flushed via water buckets.
Furthermore, you cannot lock your room! We used our own lock on the door to secure our stuff inside our room while we visited the salt flat. Maybe you can ask the owner for a solution in case she is present, I am sure she can give you a lock. Given for the price this is still an incredible offer!

There are many rooms, however it seems this place is rarely visited by guests, so you will very likely get a room.

viewpoint giving a beautiful view of Sucre and the surrounding mountains. the area is not very flat for a bivouac, but with our 4x4 we went a little higher on the hill where it was quite flat and with a great almost 360 degree view.

We think this place is great. Close to everything and we felt very safe both to sleep and to leave the car alone.
We stayed at the other fire station too, but we were accompanied by dismissed travelers. At the other point we didn't think it was safe to leave the van alone.

Nice BLM campground. Vaults, trash cans, picnic tables and dressing hooks for your deer or elk. Trails at the east end are endless.
Melting snow has the creek roaring! Was a fire through here but it's growing back.
Google maps from the South is off, you can take that road but it's rough.

Set up camp near waterline at Frog Springs. Wind was blowing and within an hour, we had to break camp because lake water level was approaching our tent. We were on the east side. Didn’t end up staying here.

Probably the best place to buy bread. This company is based in Amsterdam, Kampala, Nairobi, etc. They even have spelt loaf.

Stayed for $10 / night for 2 nights. I was the only one staying the first night. Clean and comfortable room, warm shower, good wifi, the kitchen is basic. Friendly people running this hostel. Great location right by the town square.

Agree with the last post. Any male that can hit this toilet standing up is my hero 😀. Friendly people, they heated some water for me to have an African bath.

It’s a 5-star bivouac, this place is truly wonderful! It's extremely peaceful! What a 360°! It is possible to go down to the beach, there is a path with a rope. There are 2 possible accesses to get here, in both cases the track is well marked and in good condition. No Claro signal.

A spur road off Camp Rock Rd. Easy to get to. The gravel road is one of the best. Rather windy so we’re glad of the van shelter. The railroad is the other side of I-40 so no noise from either. Rather uneven ground but we got level without blocks. A great spot for a night. 2 bars Verizon LTE.

The coordinates are incorrect. The address is Bolivia 11.
Same price as mentioned below for 10 pieces of clothing (socks and underwear don't count). I appreciated my request not to add 'perfum' and just use half of the detergent. My clothes were ready the next morning and smelled like clean and not detergent.

Amazing place for a night. The view on the crater is spectacular and there are many options for tents. We set up our tent near the walls on top with a nice view. The small shop in the village still exists and has some basics (eggs, drinks, cookies, pasta) but no bread.

We were so lucky to find Luis!! He helped us for multiple days - installing a new awning, repairing our water damaged floor, and helping with welding, mechanical repairs and all sorts of recommendations and small repairs and improvements on our new campervan . He let us park overnight safely in his garage and even worked a full Saturday with us! A wonderful man! Highly recommend. He also speaks great English 🙏🙏 thank you Luis

The waterfall nearby was a treat to listen to during the night. Saw a couple of whitetail deer, a woodhouse's scrub jay, a red tailed squirrel, and quite a few species of lizards. Only stayed one night, but it seems like a popular spot as there were 6 seperate parties that had arrived/left while we were there. Pets allowed if leashed. Must pack in-pack out, no trash available, no restrooms (they have some available a few miles up the road.)

Small gas station, large patio with tap and very friendly service.
We felt safe to stay overnight.
And we were also able to enjoy a beautiful sunset.

One of the many quarries along the road.
We only stayed for a break, not for the night. Quiet big and hidden from the road.

After dodging the 1000 holes on the road from Qarabutaq we opted for this five star truckstop. You find everything here: buffet, clean toilet with shower (this was temporarily out of service) and laundry. The place gives you a good insight in truckers life with the lively bar where they unwind or reload for the bumpy ride Qarabutaq-Aktobe. We parked all the way in the back to the side. This was a good choice because in the night a lot of trucks parked next to us.
