The waypoint is the start of the track going down. It is not too far and the track entrance looks narrow , so few people take the car down.

When we got there, there were two sedans , so no special equipment required . Small vans and motorcycles will be fine . There is probably space for 3-5 cars while maintaining some privacy . The locals don’t camp here so at night you have the place to yourself in general.

Leveled areas and also good for tents.might have to tidy up some rubbish (although when we got there it was quite clean) but that is a small price to pay for the views to the west you get in return.

At night you can hear the sound of the waves breaking on the rocks .

Very peaceful and away from the road .

Difficult to spot entrance to road so go slow. Awesome spot with noone here but us. Coyotes howling, no road noise and stars enough to make anyone happy. No mobile phone reception but who needs it. Was clean and tidy, no shade, windy but not severe

We are on a bicycle trip. Lots of flat space to put the tent. Quiet and quiet. The morning between 7 a.m. and 9 a.m. many buses to bring people to the start of the walk of the rainbow mountain

The owners of the tienda of the bottom of the village have a little room with a bed and a couch. It also serves to them as a place to put all their stuffs (just so you know). It seems it's more the husband Enrique that manages the room than his wife that manages the shop, so maybe insist to talk with him. They have a place to keep any vehicle safe. Just outside the room there's a sink and a toilet (drinkable water).
I cooked with my gas cooker inside the room but there might be the option to cook in their kitchen, or to ask the couple to prepare something to you, I guess.
So resuming, it's basic but very functional.

We came here in the dark as well and didn’t see anything, but were able to finde the place and navigate through it. Right now the locals actively use it and there are some rock piles. At night however no one was there and we used a way leading away from the first ,level’ to a higher place with fields. In the morning some people were working there, but they left us alone. Be aware at this time however the grass was quite high and it might be difficult to see the path right away.

Amazing free camping! Found a spot with a view of a valley below and mountains as far as the eye can see. Road may look rough, but it looks worse than it is. Take it slow. I made it a few miles back in a Corolla and a 36' bus. It's absolutely in the middle of nowhere, which is right where I want to be. incredible views of the night sky. Definitely a spot to hit if you're in the area.

Please be very careful or even better, avoid driving down to the beach.

We got stuck for 5 days and help costs at least euro 500,- we paid 1.300,-

The beach is only a thin crust of sand mixed with clay. Underneath is a meters thick layer of very soft clay. Many tourists, but even locals did get stuck here.

Do not drive down the beach!!, 44.50146, 58.20747

I tried this again going North to South, and it was possible on a moto. Buy the permit at the tourist office, motos $3/autos $5. Then the rangers will let you pass. It took about an hour to 1.5 hours on the bike, but has to have some of the best scenery anywhere in the country. Empty well maintained gravel road, stunning views, absolute highlight! Should be fine for any vehicle, but if you’re on a big bike with street tires you should be comfortable with gravel (some sections were fresh and a bit loose and it’s more downhill)

Adorable Cabanas near the hot springs town of Oyacachi. It was $15/night for 1 person including breakfast, and $5 for a fresh trout dinner. The cabanas are also a trout farm so you can’t get fresher than that. Cabin came with firewood and a wood stove, hot water shower, but no cell signal and no WiFi.

The setting is gorgeous, the hot springs in town are nice and less touristy than Papallacta, and it’s an area not many foreigners explore. The family that runs this place is Kichwa so that’s a fun experience too. Highly recommended coming here.

You can contact them at ‪+593 99 370 0529‬ but they require a deposit to confirm reservations, which I never got to work so I just showed up.

We arrived around 3 p.m., the weather was bad so we decided to sleep there. The first guard refused us to park at night to tell us to sleep at the mirador above.
We stayed until the closing (6:30 p.m.) and the night guards told us that there was no problem for us to sleep in the main parking lot.

The ground is not very flat, but with wedges it is done.
There is free WiFi open all night just like the toilet.
The next day we walk to the Salinas alone with the sunrise before the opening of the site to tourists.

Decent spot set back from the main road so there’s a little bit of privacy. Fire pit. Cars, high roof vans and pickup trucks easily fit. 2wd is fine. Not much of a view due to the pine trees but there is enough open sky for plenty of solar. Limited Verizon signal (2+ mbps?) but WeBoost helped quite a bit. Mostly level spots for parking and tents. I was here mid week in late April and it was very quiet. I would avoid this spot if the ground was soggy.

Had the best night sleep here, let me tell you! Peaceful and nearly empty, with tons of available sites. There was also another van that parked too, and the ranger looped around numerous times and didn’t seem to mind that I was in my van as well. Lovely hot showers and a very clean restroom. Water pumps at every loop. Very spacious camp sites as well!! $25 a night. Highly recommend, such a gorgeous campground.

One of the better Welcome Centers I’ve come across. Well lit, clean and maintained. Arrived around 2am and noticed a couple of vehicles set up for an overnight stay. Stealth camped for 5+ hours without issue. Felt very safe and surroundings were relatively quiet.

There is a faint rough double track trail, on the right side of the road, as you are heading towards Estes Park. It leads up two steep switchbacks, with decent rocky obstacles, and dead ends at a great camp site about 300’ above the main road. It’s not super large at the top. The area up there is very flat and it is large enough to easily turn a car or two around up there, but more may be tricky. I think it may have been an old mine that was dynamited shut. The land hillside is sunk in and I can’t figure out what else this short two turn road could have been for?

IMPORTANT!! This is NOT a good site for anything other than a high clearance vehicle with 4x4!! Trailers beware! I had no problem with a 16’ off-road adventure trailer up there, but could easily see how any novice could get into real trouble, real quickly! The top is very, very tight turning around and has a big drop off on one side.

That’s what made it such a great spot! It was kind of semi gnar to get to and no one bothered us all night! My wife and I spent one night there, so we could avoid the paid Rocky NP campground. There was some faint car noise from the road below, but that wasn’t too bad. Verizon full bars too!

we pay 12usd for filling our 10k Bolivian bottle . make price for us because was like 14. recommend get there between 8 and 10 because there's no one in charge before that. we get the guy (Giovanni) in charge casually.

I spent 1 night here , you first need to ask the guard in the spark supermarket or go back and ask the guard for camping, is a big land back the supermarket spark beside of the grape's plantations, it's like a parking, the guards are very friendly and help you with a space to put your tent, there are bathroom, and plugs to charge your phone. very basic but ok for rest.
