We parked just after the bridge and walked to the immigration. Easy process, just slow as they don't have many foreigners passing, they write down every possible piece of information. Another guy came and took away our passports to stamp, then we got sent to another guy who again writes down all the details into a different book then we could continue to customs.

Entering Liberia with our right hand drive car, Richard the chief, who was drinking beer and playing American 80's love songs, tried to make it a problem for us, saying it's illegal to enter Liberia with a right hand drive car and we need to go back. I said we drove from England, that's how it came out of the factory and it's safe. We argued for a bit and then I said I want to talk with his boss, he called him and the boss told him to give us the temporary import paper, he was nice after that. They had no interest in checking our car, we didn't have any CDP or lassier passer. The TIP was free and valid for 30 days.

The road to Toe town in late April is not possible with 2wd, huge pools of water and mounds of mud. We did try on our own but decided to turn back and ask in a local village for help. Turns out they have two heavy duty diggers as they run the local logging business. We came to an agreement for them to drag us through the mud with a digger all the way to Toe town. It was late so we slept in their village and continued in the morning. We paid a lot, but it was the only option to pass the road, initially they asked for 150 dollar & we settled on 100 euros. Expensive but that's what we have our emergency money for

As of April 2024 the information in the previous entry is correct and pretty much up to date. The front door guard is still annoying but the staff inside are extra helpful and you still have to go to get your vehicle and papers I directed across town.

Crossing from Zimbabwe to Zambia

Zimbabwe side was really easy, just stamp in the passport and on the Carnet.

On the Zambia there were many fixers storming the car, but you don’t need one.
At immigration you just get an entry stamp and at customs you have to fill out some document for the road tax. The fixers insist that you buy the expensive insurance there, but the customs officer sided with us and said we can get it in town and just write „to be purchased in town“ in the insurance reference field. He knew what to do with the Carnet.
To pay for the Road and Carbon Tax you don’t have to go to the counter next to the customs, but leave the building and go to the left of the restrooms. There go in the right corridor to go to the pay desk there. Currently it’s not possible to pay by card, so we had to pay 20$ and 314 Kwacha in cash. There’s an exchange beareau, but it’s on the departure side.

Still had no fee with our Visa card. On the building there’s a big Access bank sign, but the ATM is still from Atlas Mara. Limit was still 6000 Kwacha.

Very helpful, we wrote on WhatsApp and she mentioned that she can send an agent to the Victoria Falls border to get the insurance there directly. We didn’t have internet over the weekend so it didn’t work out, but we managed to leave the border without insurance and came here directly afterwards. We got local Zambian insurance and a Comesa yellow card for 1208 Kwacha valid for a month.

From Estancia Cerro Guido, stay on Road 9. You'll have an alternative trail crossing río las Chinas on your right (just for you to get water). Keep going on the 9 until the entrance of the previous spot and cross the "cattle bridge". You'll have to go up on a steep hill. When it seems to be flat again, before crossing a water evacuation, turn on you right on a grassy flat trail and keep going to stay between the piles of rocks.
Flat, clean (keep it this way) and good view on the sierra, el Cerro de la Virgen and the valley.
I guess you can find wind shelter between the piles of rocks and the bushes. We didn't need it in the evening but it was windier the next day. We had 2 cars passing on the (invisible) road around 7PM and then we were absolutely alone until 10AM (2 more cars). It is a bit rocky so we don't know if it would be confy enough for tents.

A quiet place at the end of the village nearby cemetery. 4G/H+ mobile network. No facilities. Place for 1-2 campers or one big rig. Use this place if you have WC on board only! The entry to the Quebrada de Las Señoritas is in approx 800m distance, very nice.

Great place for the night. Amazing view at sunrise and sunset. It costs us 200 pesos (12$) to stay for the night and we got our own area and papala. We car camped and it was awesome. Everyone was very sweet and the restaurant had great food. Would highly recommend! Bring lots of sunscreen and bug spray.

dinosaur footprints. we went down with our 4x4 truck beyond the footprint parking lot to find out on iOverlander. At the end of the path there is space to park and turn around. the path is very narrow and rocky. from there it takes about 15 minutes to walk to reach the dinosaur footprints which are behind the mountain which you have to go around. there was a Bolivian there who asked us for 20 bowls per adult and explained the traces a little. there is a line of footprints of a large 4-legged herbivore and a line of footprints of a 2-legged carnivore.

Nice campground right on the river with nice walking paths. It was not very busy when we were there so we had open spaces on both sides of us but the spaces had 15-30 feet between them depending on the spot. It was $37 a night but also had a vehicle fee of $10 so $47 total. Very convenient off the highway with not too much noise (we were in one of the furthest spots from the road). Showers were free and there was a potable water pump.

Stunning area. Backed into the spot with back doors at fire pit and river. This is definitely the type of area that poets would go to to get their inspiration. Full moon rising right above the creek. Absolutely stunning place to spend earth day at :)

As described, cute spot by the quiet lake, even though the road can be noisy. A bit of garbage and dumpage lying around sadly (old engine, mattress near the forest...). Good for one night. We were alone at this time of year.

Beautiful view of the ocean, the sunset and sand dunes below. There’s a path to the north of the parking area that leads down to the dunes which I recommend checking out. There are public restrooms in the Lighthouse museum nearby, but they have limited hours. There is a nice restroom with flush toilets near the lake on the way in/out to the lighthouse. The restroom doors lock at dusk, not sure when they open, but they were open at 8:30 am. This is the best spot I have stayed so far! Highly recommend.
