We stayed here from 8am until 9pm while surfing/ hanging out and felt very safe— friendly locals out for day trips, fishermen, travelers surfing, and police patrolling periodically— BUT we have heard mixed reviews about CAMPING out on the point.

1. The locals at the gate by the “privately property” sign said it was tranquilo, as did some fishermen who stay out here until 11pm. The police do rounds (although more frequent during day and at sunset, as we didn’t see them after nightfall.)

2. A frequent visitor/surfer from Lima, as well as some surfers from a town over, said its dangerous. The latter said, “If you camp here it’s a sure thing you get robbed at gun point.”

After dark, and when the fishermen leave, there was no one else out here so we opted to play it safe and camp within the walls of the Adventure Resort for $15 USD.

this is a beautiful camp spot. the first 20m is quite steep with loose rubble and stones but after that it's an easy enough walk with bikes down to the lake. it's not a total secret though and there were a few families there having a BBQ and fishing but they left at sunset and then we had the place all to ourselves. there's a lot of dry wood for fires and a few good fire pits.

*I posted this two weeks ago and it never got added, so I'll post again.
A great little place right next to the lagoon, they have little boats you can rent or take a tour for 3sol, day entrance is 1sol. A restuarant, little shop and espresso coffee bar right here. Beans are from their farm and delicious.
I planned to camp for one night, it was rainy bad and they cleaned out a private room for me, added a bed, tables and chairs, charged me 15sol/ night. So a stayed a month!
You can go tilapia fishing, if you want big ones find the spear fisherman and he will explain where to go.
Parking for probably 10 overlanders, one gate has a height the other no. Ruben and Karina are really friendly.
The parents also own a more fancy place in town with a gardens, ponds, restarant etc on google maps "Los Ositos", I think 60sol/ night. Coffee, native village, etc tours availble of the area.

We discovered this place by reference of Graciela (Blue House in Río Grande). It is a really good and beautiful hostel. B&B (bed and breakfast). Hot shower and good company.

We really liked this little campground. Great location right by the lake. Very friendly owners. A bit basic (the missing toilets seat) but the best hot showers we had in a while. 150 peso pp plus 50 for the car.

After a strenuous drive coming down from Morelia it was a treat to hang out here for a couple of days.
From the palapa we even saw whales one morning but they were still far out.

Very busy in high season during the day. Lot of trash and it's hard to find a leveled place for car.

Very nice site right by the river. Though you hear the generator, it does have a really wild feel to it. We saw a bunch of hippos. Still only 90 for 2 people and a car.

At the end of Parish Rd 359. We spent 2 nights. Really quiet... with the sound of the waves! Pit toilets. Showers not working because of winter. Perfect spot.

Basic in style but with all the comfort you might need. Conveniently located especially when visiting Veracruz for Carnaval. Spotless clean, very friendly staff. Gated parking area large enough for midsize rigs (up to about 7X2m, no height limit). We had a large room with two Queen Size Beds right at the pool and paid MEX$ 550 per night (walk-in rate).

Coming from Namibia:
- we had to walk at the Mata-Mata reception desk and pay at least for two nights in the park (you can also do the booking before via internet),
- show the receipt at the Namibian immigration to get the passports stamp out
- no stamp on the carnet
- no control from South African immigration (no entry stamp on the passports)

Small Campground close to Okefenokee Main Entrance with tent sites ($10) and RV sites ($20) shaded from big live oak trees. Quietness disturbed by some trains. We stayed for 4 nights. No one came to collect the camping fee and no one cares for the campground during our stay.

Perfect hideout! A open area (old gravel pit maybe?) in the end of a service road. Drive down a road called Getingvägen in the little village Hulared, and just keep going for about 3-400m until you find the open area, you will pass a lit up trail on your way. The road is big enough for our VW -van with roof racks and drivable without 4w drive. There is a public beach by a lake close by. We had a quiet stay!

Maybe we got lucky but this was the best gas station stay we've had in 11 countries. Decent sandwiches and beer at the cafe- normal prices - for Argentina and Chile. We stayed inside the cafe and used wifi and charged phones for like 4 hours no problem. Showers had hot water. We did't pay for the showers? - but we did fill up with gas and buy stuff in the cafe...Bathrooms busy but quite clean considering how many people use them. Good wifi. Parked across the street on the cafe side and got good wind block from the trees. Free hot water for thermos/cups by the bathrooms. No problems. Staff varied from indifferent to nice. But not rude. Truck car noise late into the night and again early in the morning. But considering that r40 is so windy and open we felt like we scored:)

Didn't hear any helicopters or planes. Lot of spots, really quiet, rings fire, and really close to the south rim. We just had to move the second day we spent because of the snow (not have 4x4). The spot near Tusayan is better with winter conditions.
