Did drive up from the east. Extremely difficult with my Defender - to be honest not driveable - too many rocks and big rocks!

Right before the gate at the end of the road there’s a visitor parking lot for Lago del Desierto. We asked the at the Gendarmeria (Argentinean National Guard) if it was OK to camp in our roof top tents in the parking lot and they said yes, no problem. We’d recommend letting the guards know you’d like to camp at parking lot out of courtesy so they know you there for the night. No fires allowed. There are public restroom about 50 meters past the gate next to the Gendarmeria office building. Nice spot next to the woods, mostly protected from the wind. Access to short hikes along the lake and to the Huemul Glacier. Nice spot. Boat rides also available for 500pp

Great camping site along the highway. You can find a beautiful canyon about 150 feet deep where you can rock climb after a 20 minute walk. Jorge looks out for the place and charges USD$ 2.00 per car. At night you can start a camp fire in the center of the site. If neededk, rooms are available for USD$ 20.00 a night. Spectacular views of Chimborazo and lots of hiking options.

Way to expensive for what it is. No power, no wifi, card machine didn't work, one toilet block closed due to lack of water and tepid water in the shower in the other. Only one shower worked properly and the soap dispensers in both toilets appeared to be full but none would come out. It is impossible to get anywhere near level in some of the camp spots and these were the only ones available to us. We put our roof tent up on a level spot and were invited to join someone's fire. Fortunately the skies were blue with a fantastic view, but we moved on after one night.

Place in the desert in a pan of a creek. Hidden behind bushes. About 500 meters off the highway, easy access on a dirt track.

We did not go to this place because there is a big sign "private property" at the beginning of the track at the Mex1.
We found two other places a bit further north (see our entries "Desert creek" and "Hillside camp").

A dirt track leads from the Mex1 to a small hill, and just behind the crest there is a big open place. Not visible from the highway. The track ends at this place.

Best seafood tacos in town, affordable good quality food and beers. Family owned, really nice bloke... better than Rice and Beans in my opinion. Stay a while

For what they now charge u can find better places in town. The whole is a bit uncared for, swimming pool dirty and the room needed a lick of paint. WiFi virtually non existent but the positive thing is staff are great and breakfast very nice

This place is under construction but supposed to be ready by the end of the year. Friendly Swiss owner, pizza restaurant in the making, place to camp and some bungalows. Surfboards will be for rent, fishing is great, boats for rent. This place will soon be the best place in Robertsport for sure.

Good place to spend a night but an idiotic suggestion to walk down into the petrified forest! Free entry anyway and you can get as close as one wants to the logs. Ranger didn't care what all the locals proved by sitting, standing, lying, licking on the stony wood, or taking debris as souvenirs. Frustrating to watch.
You can access the site also from the south via this wild camping spot. Good gravel road saves some kms if you don't have any business in Sarmiento.

Still 15k for a camper and a family of four. Cold pool, nice vibe, clean bathrooms. We met some swiss overlanders here. WiFi coverage was good, Internet didn't work though.

I'm a little torn to recommend this place or not... I'll just give the facts:

+ really friendly owner always available for questions
+ place is 500m from troy
+ parking at troy is 20tl for caravans (you save this when you stay here)
+ electric included

- about 20m away from the main road into troy
- wake-up service at sunrise by really near call for prayer speaker
- 60tl (negotiated 50tl off season)
- 30tl for a small plate of Kofte and some veggies

You decide ;)

Easy border!

There’s a peage for the first 3-4km of the Malian side.

Malian side closes at 1 am. (Middle of the night)
Senegal side is open 24h.

In the Malian side, in Kéniéba, there’s a hotel. But there isn’t in the Senegales side (except a prostitute bar/hotel).

Turn east after bridge, follow dirt road, which is narrow and probably muddy after a rain. We rode in a few km after a few farmers gave us the go ahead; came to a spot where we crossed the river on our motobike and found a great level area on the gravel bed, near the water- made a fire, protected from wind, lots of stars. Place is used by locals, probably busy on weekends, come later in the day to have it all to yourself. Great wild camp spot!

The only vegetarian plate on the menu was missing, so we didn’t eat there. It’s a pleasant place to relax, though. Prices between 24.000 COP and 35.000 COP for main dishes.

There are two zipline operators in Mindo, next to each other. Both seem to have 10 cables. This company is run by 4 brothers from Mindo, the other is a company from Costa Rica.
Double cable system, felt very safe and the guides are very nice. On some lines you can do a guide-accompanied superman (head forward). Cost is 20 USD.

Here you can spend the night in the parking lot if you do the tour. There are clean toilets available during operating hours 9-17h (may be left open during the night if you ask?). Dog friendly.
