It’s a large area big enough to park for the night no facilities though. There is a shopping center with Walmart across the freeway. People park their vehicles here at night and walk over the river levy to go fishing. They stay out here all night fishing and no one bothers them or you for that matter

On the canal.
This is not an official camper site, but local campers are also here occasionally. nobody bothered us.
Shipping on the canal, many locals in the evening, quiet at night.
Magnificent views of the water and the skyline.

The whole area can be really busy on Friday's with good weather, with people picknicking. This spot is relatively out of sight and has a nice view of the hills at the other sight.
No trees for cover. Road is visible on maps.me
We just parked on a spot that is not being used by farmers. Stayed two nights without problems.

Very nice campsite set in the bush with lots of birds and jackals calling at night. Amazing when you think how close to Gaborone you are. 2 or 3 camp sites amongst ready erected tents. Pool (and bar at weekends), also breakfast served (we didn’t check it out), no other meals. Use Google maps or map.me to enter from Phakalane (don’t believe the directions from other starting points). Some dirt road but mainly tarred. Can be noisy at weekends. Good supermarkets etc in Phakalane. We paid P300 per night with Land Rover and Caravan. Call or WhatsApp

The office to start at 7.30-8 for the briefing and allocation of groups. From here you drive with your own car or catch a lift to the start of the tracking location. Maximum 8 people per group with 4 gorilla groups in the area. Low season has plenty of extra permits and can be bought with cash or visa at any of the receptions including this one of the park. I bought mine from a tourguide who often have extra permits due to cancellations.

Prices rise:
One building: 55.000
Two buildings: 80.000
I will update prices in original description here on iOverlander for those who don’t read comments.
We went only to the first building, but I fear most of the avantgarde paintings are in the second building, as most of the exhibits in the first building is ethnographic.
So if you are interested in avant-garde paintings, go to both buildings. If you just want to sneak into that kind of art, one is enough.

Real coffee, good cakes, burger, huuuuge Pizza and other western food.
Not too expensive: 1 cappuccino + cake = 2,20€ :-)
Can be crowded but it’s worth waiting for a table.

Water source in a village. Can't connect hose to, so bring a jerrycan. According to locals it is potable. Be aware: if you drive further on to the mountains (direction east), you maybe also get stopped by the police. They said the president lives in the area. Police was friendly though.

It is possible to camp at the museum. The director of the museum and his wife and extended family are warm, welcoming people who invited us into their home to share a meal and conversation. There is plenty of room for big rigs. Bathroom and showers available. There is also a small cabin where backpackers without their own gear can spend the night. $5 per night.

We showed up unannounced and the whole place was shuttered. There was a horse in the yard and three dogs, but one of them was obviously starving and bloody. We fed the dogs and left.

Not a place where you’re welcome to stay long. Only 1 available toilet for which you pay 350 pesos and doesn’t lock! No seating area. You can’t recharge your mobile although it says that you can. Park only for 10minutes and so on...

Out of the 3 campsite options mentioned this doesn’t have the view but is most quiet, I drove my camper down the hill a bit to park in between the pine trees as the carpark didn’t feel appealing although I am the only guest and had the place to myself and 3 great staff members. I had a hot bath in one of the rooms which was a welcoming possibility after many weeks! Internet after 18h00 only.

there are several other similar spots on this road. I parked in one 1.5km north (-41.68572° -72.38707°) in front of something like an abandoned school and a lovely church, no boat ramp nearby and big enough for any rig size. Very calm at night, almost no traffic

A decent low cost, pet friendly hotel with secure parking. $450 mxn p/n for room with a fan, $550 mxn p/n for a/c. $500 mxn damage deposit for dog, returned upon checkout. Clean, great showers, hot water. The gated parking area will fit 2-3 smaller overland vehicles (trucks, jeeps, vans, small motorhomes/trailers), there is free street parking on a quiet street for big rigs. Walking distance to large mall with fast food & Soriana. We stayed here a few nights while getting some repairs done.

Over a stretch of about one kilometer there are plenty of spots right at the beach. Some with shade, some without. Every once in a while locals come nearby to go fishing or have picnic but most of the time you're alone. You're not completely blocked from the street but there is very little traffic (no traffic at night at all). With 4WD you could've tucked away even better. Yes, rubbish around but we cleaned around our spot. Lighting a fire is okay. Amazing sunsets. One of our favorite spots in Thailand.

Really good location if this is windy. we were there with a roof tent as it was crazy wind on the shore of the lake and this place is definitly one of the best for wind protection. althought as there is no doubt Carlos the owner is very very kind, be prepare for very old facility. hot shower was good but no pressure for long hair like mine. Price is still 250 pp.
