scenic location on lago bosque azul. Accomodation includes rustic (falling apart) cabañas and spaces to camp in a tent ( $50 pesos/night). parking lot for overlanders. no shower. gross toliet facilties. no water available at all, not even for hand washing. didn't ask about wifi. they rent pedal boats. beautiful lake, quiet, nice wildlife viewing. too run down for us, only stayed a night. family was nice.

Just outside of Cuenca, the hostal has a bundle of activities to offer, horseback riding, mountain biking, even kayak. Delicious ‘locro de papa’ soup, beautiful views. 4K meters above sea level at the edge of Parque Nacional el Cajas.

Saw some elephants, kudu and zebra at this waterhole.

Cheap but not clean, wifi doesn’t work well. For a little bit more Hôtel Milenio next to this one is much more peacefull and nice

Beautiful place on the lake shore. Loads of birds including large wading ones, hippos come at night and vervet monkeys in the morning. Very peaceful and relaxed spot. Get up early and have a coffee while watching the sunrise over the lake.

Camping 800 ksh pppn. Big rig friendly confirmed.

Ignore the touts at the junction as you turn off, there is no need to stop for them even if they claim to work for the council.

Cave/stupa. The family friendly cave complex is located just south of the Orange Bridge. There are quite a few steps. Admission fee: 15,000 Lak. ($1.90)

Cave: Difficult climb on roughed in path (suitable for those in decent shape). The cave runs deep with plenty of difficult passages and crevices to crawl through. The cave is unlit, so you will need to bring your own source of lighting, headlamp recommended.

Overlook:. The path to the overlook is similar and concurrent to the path to cave. Great views of the valley from the top.

Admission: 10,000 Lak ($1.20) per person.

police checkpoint, asked for our insurance which we didnt get at the border because we understood that it was included in the road tax and they said we were good to go at the border. fine was 10,000 per moto. stupid

Nice campsite with beautifully view over Lake Qarun. You can sleep outside in your car. By Reservation you can eat.

well established track running along large river about 6kms from Merida. lots of spots to park up, lots of shade, nice hikes or biking along river.
few hundred metres from road, very quiet spot no houses around.

We did the paperwork for entering Uruguay. Very fast, friendly.

spent the first night here, we paid the owner 50 pesos to let us use the toilet and shower. shower is cold but alright and the bathroom is left open all night, but you still park on the beach where it is free and there is no security or light at night. sadly they are also very unfriendly with overlanders. the day after we decided to move a little further on the beach and when I asked to use the bathroom they won't let me, even if I paid a price or buy a drink. wifi was very slow and we couldn't work that day.

Excellent family run restaurant, got rice, beans and grilled fish for 1000 kw, cold small cuca beer for 150 kw. Boa petite!

Still open, lovely staff who speaks both Spanish and perfect English. Good wifi, tables with power plugs and great food options!

Today had a hard time finding a parking spot as everyone is returning from carnival weekend. Hope we won't run into any of the reported car burglary issues.

Not sure why it's reported as permanently closed, even with them not being open yesterday we were easily able to find them being very active on social media and responding quickly to us asking if they were open today or not.

Worth a visit! One of the lesser touristy places in this area.

cabanas at the border of the town of Villarica. super quiet. price between 20 and 35 mil pesos. close to shops, centrer and lake. The owner Carmen speaks also English French!
