Parrot Ave public parking lot (72 hour parking) and across street near water (no limits on street). Camped here last night in our van, no issues, a little traffic but quiet. Walking distance to the dog park, tennis courts and town! Love Portsmouth!

100 feet (30 meters) from Highway 40 at the entrance to a sandy forest road, a clearing with an unfortunate amount of household debris and trash. Suitable for a van, ours with a height clearance of 10 feet (3.3) meters scraped a few light branches getting in. Noisy from passing traffic, no amenities. Good Verizon cell signal.

We stayed at one of the pullouts about a quarter of a mile from the spot marked on this post. Road in was rocky and rutted, doable in our 26 ft class C but not fun.

It was very windy when we were here, and also apparently the Doña Ana range was conducting late night testing or bombing or whatever they were doing, sounded like chemical plant explosions, every few minutes for several hours starting in the evening through late night / early morning. It was disconcerting, especially not knowing what exactly was happening and if these were planned explosions or not, along with the high loud winds, our dogs and we were on edge all night.

We have 2wd Ford Transit. We don't recommend driving beyond the mouth of canyon, too many loose rocks & washout. The view was spectacular even where we parked. We hiked for 2 hours along the riverbed and canyons, didn't see the waterfalls (maybe dry season?) but it was beautiful. No reception.

Confusing at first but then we saw the camping sign (kinda small). Pulled up on the levee and there we were! Picnic tables and fire pits with a little cell service. Very quiet. YES, flying insects but we have the K.I.S.S. Airflow screens that kept the van bug free. You can buy yours at www.TheRollingStowes.com

Drove here but didn’t stay as it was super dirty and not so nice anyhow. Spent the day at the other “Free Beach” option, where it is beautiful...

Stayed here last night, checked in upon arrival, they charged $10.00 on a Saturday night. There were a few other big rigs here. Have to be self contained. It’s a couple of large grassy parking lots. But it’s 10 bucks. Worked for us, and there’s Security too.

Good spot, I took the 3rd campground, after that the road gets significantly tougher. I have low clearance and 2wd and was fine.

Past the rest area building, toward the picnic area, there is a water spigot we used to fill our tank with. Not sure that it’s potable (we have two filters)

It’s a slow fill and leaks a little, but it works!

Off Mc Laws Rd. You'll need to self register at the beginning of the road. Requires minimal information.

Super clean, nice and affordable camping right next to Ancestral Pueblo ruins. Water is by the visitors center in winter and the threads have been removed from one faucet so you can’t attach a hose. If you have a jug you’re fine though. Definitely recommended.

Jerry rd off of highway 1. "No overnight" signs, but such is everywhere in Monterey county. Stayed 1 night, got there at 10pm already saw 2 other vehicles boondocking. Another came in later in the night. Woke up at 9am and the place was pretty active with fishers and surfers. Be sure to head to the Moss Landing Wildlife observation decks 100 yards south on 1 to see some otters.

A truck stop/casino with plenty of RV parking spots. The RV lot is not level. Showers are $12 and are clean. Dump station is $25. Good spot to overnight outside of Las Vegas.

We stayed here for two nights and will be happy to come back!
It's not easy to maintain such a big camping and the Chalets when tourism is down like now during Corona. They manage very well. Everything is in good condition. The Bar and Restaurant are nice (currently even with WiFi from 6pm to 6 am) and the staff is very friendly.
For camping you get wonderful grassy spots with lots of shade thanks to many trees. Electricity at the camping spots available. Big rig friendly. The ablutions were clean as well.
There is also a garden where they started to grow their own vegetables.
Oh, and Rudolph used to be a tour guide around Africa, so he has some really useful tips on top and was happy to help us with some special requests.

Still only takes RSA and Namibian Credit Cards. Only place I’ve ever seen this. Pick a different fuel station - maybe they will stop this silly practice.

Isolated, quiet, flat ground next to a little used Chapel. On a hill but no view due to overgrown vegetation. Peaceful. Steep and challenging uphill path. 4x4 or solid, small vans only.

The manager was super friendly and showed us the outside shower and toilets. He asked us to leave by 6AM as the boss didn’t like overnighters. WiFi was intermittent. Had a good night...

One of our fav spots along Highway 1. Woke up to beautiful sunrise with birds singing and ocean sounds. 5 others vehicles with us, which felt reassuring because everyone talks about how strict they are near Big Sur. This seems to be far enough south that nobody bothers you.

Overnight spot when going to the caves. Got to this area in the late afternoon. Asked my guide after the cave tour if I could park here overnight sand he said no problem. No facilities but safe and quiet. Didn’t want to attempt the road down at dusk. The people in the square Are very friendly and it’s community of indigenous.

Nice desert camping area. Less than 2 miles from the highway. This spot fit our 40 foot fifth wheel fine. There are several other smaller spots along this road. Quiet, few cars. Remote, no services.

Here again 9 months later & it’s still a great spot. Menil is open Wednesday-Sunday 11p-7a and are the closest bathrooms during that time period.

Other van dweller mentioned it’s not level, which is true, but I just park one side on the curb and it levels out perfectly. Pictured spot is just around the corner of the GPS coordinates.

We stayed one night, basic but nice campsite.
Very quiet at night. Interesting information about the save the rhino trust, they definitely do a good job here!
We heard people drove from the coast towards the camp in the Ugab riverbed. They got stuck twice(also black cotton soil). Nobody informed them about the bad road conditions, I think if you do this you definitely have to be with two cars.
