Great spot to park for the night and watch the sunset. No signs re overnight parking and we didn’t hear a car go by all night. Lobster fisherman at the marina nearby late and early. Fire ring and table but no toilets. Get there early as people come to watch the sun go down.

Good place to stay for the night before the border. We asked and could stay for free. Clean bathroom, shower we did not use. Felt safe with 24/h surveillance and the owners living on the property as well.

We litterly rolled in here. For some reason our acceleration decided to stop working and it got worse every 50 km until about 70 km before Quito (we were coming from the San Miguel border), the acceleration just stopped every few minutes, shutting the motor down and making it a terrible situation high up in de Andes. We tried to drive to another mechanic which was stated in iO but couldn't go anywhere else as our motor just stopped right in front of this place. Luckily it looked like a very good and professional garage. And it was. They started helping us right away and figured out what the problem was; the exhaust was clogged due to bad gasoline (apparently happens to all cars due to bad quality of gasoline, not only in Bolivia but anywhere). Very professional and friendly people. They have all round knowledge, a computer to read any vehicle, they do all sort of things.
No height restrictions.
Fair price for cleaning the exhaust and fixing the front brakes right away.

Had a fairly good border crossing back into Ecuador. Quick process as we were at the door right at opening time. There were a lot of Venezuelian refugees here trying to pass the border. Luckily they set up tents, medical stands, comedors, showers and bathrooms for them. They all seemed fairly happy, looking at the situation they were in. They wanted to chat with us and know about our travels.
We asked at the guy at the door who led us to a separate row for "foreigners", not Venezuelians. It took about one hour in total, incl. Dian & Aduana. Only wait was at Colombian immigration.

Very quirky, basic site with portaloos or pit toilets. May have WiFi at the library if you are lucky. Live music at bar next to site at weekends ($5 or $10 cover charge), cafe + sea views. Power if required $25. Without electricity $20. Tent $10. Best to book for weekends.

Dry camping with some informal fire pits. Easy access to glacier run off water. Close to highway but rushing creek water drowns out anything else. We have about 24ft and 9.5’ and made it in easy. No facilites. Leave no trace.

OK hotel, quite old - not spotlessly clean, but good enough. Room with shared bathroom above street: 17k, away from the front: 22k. I opted for right at the back with own bathroom for 28k.
Happy for bicycle to squeeze into the room with me, but offered the corridor too. Note, it is up 2 narrow flights of stairs from the street so caring a loaded bike up is hard work after a long day!
[2 doors up the street (towards the park) is hotel Los Pinos which has ground floor access/rooms - would be easier for cyclists but no vacancy for me.]

Flat gravel parking lot overlooking Scots Bay. Maintained by provincial parks association. Pit toilets, garbage disposal station, entrance to scenic hiking trail, lots of space, excellent view of the bay with picnic table and bench. Mostly quiet - the lot is at the end of the main road and used by some to turn around and head back into the town of Scots Bay so there’s a tiny amount of traffic noise in the evening. The tide made more noise to be honest. No one bothered us. Stayed two nights no problem. No signs saying you can’t park overnight. One other large camper stayed as well.

We stayed one night here to be able to visit the Uros Islands. We looked at many of the options in Puno and found the city to feel unsafe.

We had the best shower of our trip here. The water is hot and the pressure is perfect. There is a bathroom (bring your own TP) and a sink for washing dishes or clothes. They said the water is potable, but we didn’t drink it.

The area to camp is not all that nice, but it appears they are working on this.

The couple running this place is so sweet. Maria helped us book a tour of the Uros Islands which was slightly more than the cost of just showing up at the port, but we liked knowing we had a reservation. The tour company they use was awesome (Suri is the name of the tour company - Hector was our captain and Freddy was our guide - awesome!) and we had a blast. Maria even walked us to the road to catch a collectivo and she made sure they knew where to take us. This little gesture made our experience memorable.

We highly recommend staying here. Price is still $37 soles total for the car, 2 people and a dog.

(WiFi is not great).

It is a beautiful place for sure, but - and that must have changed recently - full of bees! Ar the beginning it was just a few but turned out to be a few hundred after a couple of hours. They were attacking our van and we had to literally flee as it was getting quite dangerous! I would NOT recommend going there any time soon! We left for a spot 6km further south with no bees and equal beauty!

Busy but quite campground. Make reservations. Free hot showers! We used them a few days after we stayed there and no one seemed to mind. right outside of Black Elk Peak hiking trails along the Needles Hwy. Big rigs cant make it due to the low clearance tunnels.
