Looks very nice, but a dead animal was decomposing... A nice smell, we didn't stay

Very well maintained truckers stop, all as described.
Keep in mind that the stop is in the northbound side of the highway, so if you're traveling South you have to pass by it and make 8 kms more until the next U-turn towards Copiapó.
To continue South the next morning, leave the stop and go North for about 3 kms until the U-turn towards Vallenar.
.

This is real a super spot. We come here after visiting all the other places in the surroundings and this is the only one that real can fit a big rig (we have a truck). We park here our truck for 10 days in order to visit iquitos and the Pacaya-Samira reserve via river. this was just perfect. the owners are super, super friendly and helpful. We can use the shower of one of the room (they have a lot). We also used the WiFi of the hotel, not super fast, but one of the best we found in Peru. also we charged water for our truck before the departure. Taxi for the center cost not more than two soles, but you can also walk for 15 minutes in order to reach the plaza the armas. Airport is really near, useful if you plan to come back or to go in iquitos with the airplane. We didn't hear any airplane in the night. definitely we loved this spot.

spend quiet night, there's a few trailers there now, seems peninsula is proibithing or unlinking motorhomes, there's a lot of new sigs warning no camping. in entrance they say it cost 520pp each day, but no one charge us for the second day, but probably they will start to charge soon. after we left the peninsula we saw a lot of motorhomes spend the night at the beach into the litoral road. friendly people live in this spot, you have a small Beach e view island of birds

FREE RANGE HORSES!!!

Not many places to hide the tent and moto from view from the road, but the area felt very safe.

No dogs barking nor roosters crowing! Only horses neighing and cows mooing.

We asked the warden if we could stay for the night in our camper and she said yes - just don’t make fire. Very nice view over the lowlands and mountains. Free. Toilets near the warden’s house.

We did the track with our Unimog, we had no problems driving up and down, was fun! If you have a big truck be aware of the very sharp bends

Right before the bridge there is a dirt road that goes down to the river. Side of the river is flat and wide enough to park

A big flat parking at the New start of rainbow hike ,new drive too, since july 2018 .To come here ,you have to turn left before the bridge of Cusipata from Cusco.
It's a very narrow and rough drive ,no asphalt .But It was ok with our canadian 24 feet motorhome , with propulsion drive ( during dry weather ). We drive around 2 hour to arrive on the parking at the start of a small hike to rainbow mountain. If it's raining this drive is closed . Ask if there is snowing before take the road. Important, the drive is very narrow at the beginning in the small village. It's better to come here after 3h30pm because , the tourist bus start to go down after 1pm . We was alone here during the night. You have to take care with the meteo ,it's an high mountain 4500 meters . Toilets are available, we make a pit fire with stone but take your wood before.
Please take your waste with you when you go down , they haven't any organisation with the dustbins , and you find waste everywhere with the wind and dogs . It's a horrible to see that in this crazy wonderfull place.
We start at 10 am the hike ,because it's very close , just 1h15 with children to go at red valley , and continue later to the rainbow after the tourist jam ;)
We was alone at red valley and we prefered at the rainbow montain .

The toilet was magnificent for one... the beach was nice and sandy. There was a area with a roof, you could easily hangout under when it's raining. The cellphone service and 3g was on point...probably the best spot so far.

We contacted Francisco via WhatsApp and he responded right away. We were able to text back and forth in English and set up a tour. We arranged private boat for 150 per hour for 2 adults and one kid. Due to family emergency, he couldn't do the tour himself but set us up with dine's guy who gave the tour. All went well. We saw 4 jaguars and they took us where the local river otter's hang out. We went in the afternoon...2 to 5. The bathrooms on the Santa Cruz floating hotel were super clean and we could have camped in the parking lot for free. But we left for a shadier spot, wifi, and electric over at Jaguar camp. The heat is intense, and we are glad we didn't get on a shared boat, as our 5 year old was able to lay on the padded floor of the boat, with the pillow they provided to get a nap.

Parking situé avant le point GPS en contrebas du camping payant. Très jolie vue sur le lac, mais la route est plus passante qu’on ne le crois et perturbe la quiétude du lieu. Dump 10$ au camping.

We think that is a must to go in Swasi. It was one of our highlights. The guided tour through the village is very informativ. The best is the 45min dance and sing show they offer 2 times a day (11:15 and 15:15). Very well made and impressive how they perform.
Waterfall is also nice and has a nice Picknick spot.
All is included in the entrance fee of 100R pp.
we loved it!

Amazing free campground at Balanced Rock County Park. Situated on Salmon Falls Creek, there are roughly a dozen sites nestled in a gorge between two cliff walls. Beautiful area, somewhat busy on weekends but not all that bad. Pit toilets, trash cans, fire rings, grills and plenty of tent camping on the green grass. Potable water available, but it tastes like it has a lot of calcium in it. Just be aware of the sprinklers that automatically turn on between 10pm and 10am (or as needed) every weekday. No cell service. Apparently great fishing too! Short hiking trail at the end of the area - awesome!

Good place to spend a night a little away from the main road. We parked behind a milk station who is not in use anymore. Flat, sandy ground, clean. There are even some working power plugs outside the building. There was once a toilet - but as there is no water, it is not in "working condition" anymore. As you are close to 600 meter, it cools down at night. Some local farmers drove by but did not bother to stop. We had a quite night and felt very safe.
