Get the free permit in town. They’ll give you (not the best) maps also.

Consider it like a cactus safari. Accessible with 2wd, but not easy : 30min for 8miles.

Camping permitted all over.

Wild and beautiful.
Big horn sheep and antilopes could be seen.

This place is luxurious!!! The lodge itself is extremely well maintained with nice little homely touches everywhere. The setting is a beautiful beach where you can swim without strong currents pulling you in (a huge thing in Côte d’Ivoire!) and behind the lodge is an idyllic river. We were allowed to camp right on the beach for 5,000 CFA a night for 2 people with a 4x4 because we ate at the restaurant. Cost for camping if you don’t eat at the restaurant is 8,000 CFA for 2 people and a 4x4 per night. We had breakfast, lunch and dinner there - which did add up but was really delicious. Jojo is a lovely Swiss lady and everyone who worked there was extremely kind and thoughtful - always offering a helping hand whenever they could. They were more like a big family than employer/employee relationship - a great feel to the place!!!

Eduardo who is now responsible for this campsite. The price doesn’t change for camping and it costs 10K. There was no water but it’s ok only for one night...

An absolutely lovely family with a beautiful handmade house and a large yard with incredible volcano views. Misha and Melissa are friendly, knowledgeable, and speak English, Spanish, Dutch, and German. Two super cute kids and several friendly dogs. I couldn’t have had a better experience!

We also really can recommend this place for camping. The bathroom is very clean with hot shower and great water pressure. The outdoor kitchen in the back of the main house can be used and is also very clean. WiFi works very good for up- and downloading pictures and videos. At this time of the the year all of this for 19000 COP (15000 w/o kitchen) for 2 in a van. The young guy who is working here can speak a bit english. We really appreciated!

Nice big place directly at the lake. Clean facilities. 8.000 pesos all year round. Bit expensive in our opinion.

Cannot recommend them for shipping purposes. Martina has hard issues of concentration. Communication was hard and in the end they wanted to charge us 500$ more than we agreed in the first place due to mistakes she made. The shipping line wanted the container back in san antonio, which generated additional costs. She did not inform us in time, even though we stayed at their place. I managed to return the container in valparaiso, meanwhile they sent it to san antonio and presented me the bill... i also had to handled the forwarder and payed their taxi bills. They are very nice people but not helpful to us

Next to Cristo bridge there's a path which leads to a little waterfall (cascada) and there's some spots for wild camping.
it's an informal but well known place for camping for the people of the village

Weird Walmart but quiet night. Parked just at the end of the parking lot, no issues. Cars do like to shop late here it seems so some road noise.

On a clear and sunny day - don’t miss this!!!

Nice hike to the crater of volcano casablanca. It starts at crater raihuén and continues up the volcano. It’s steep and not very easy but the higher you get the better the view! At the top you‘ll have a absolutely amazing 360* view. At the tourist info they said the hike takes about 3h to the top and 2h back. We made it 2h40 but we are probably fast hikers;-)

quite spot near the lake, hidden behind a tree with sunset over the lake, look out for hummingbirds feeding on the trees with red flowers

For people wanting to camp there's a spot inaccessible by car which looks flat and not so rocky

The campsite is nice, clean, lovely staff. No mobile signal, not so many animals in the campsite. perfect for a nature getaway. More people on weekends.

Tour operators are just rude, the boat ride is not worth it. Just drive around and you will have caymans cross the street. Its super nice :)

Okay, the way there is a different story. We went after heavy rain. we had to use wipers for the front windshield to see through, also some what looked to be bigger water crossings, which turned out to be nothing if in high clearance car. we went back after two days of sun, the road was waaay better. I would not do it without a 4x4 anyways. 4x4 like a 4Runner, Hilux, LC etc. A VW van with 4x4 does not count as 4x4, please. Maybe its doable with 4x2 in super dry conditions, but super irresponsible with lots of oportunities to get stuck. Otherwise an adventure with lots of capybaras(we saw+200) , caymans, macaws, spiders in the grass, mosquitos, foxes in the evening and mornings etc.
