You can refill your garrafon here for 15Q per 20L. You can come by car but streets are narrow so I walked from the main square. Bang on the front gate so someone comes for you.

Very beautiful place to camp, next to the active Turrialba volcano. There is a little restaurant (open 7:00 am till 3:30 pm), bathrooms and an indoor area. This is nice, because it gets quiet cold in this area. No showers. We were here in the weekend and there were some other campers. Some locals arrived when it was already dark, this is not recommendable, because it was hard for them to find a place in the dark. 3000 colones per person, kids younger then 10 years old stay for free:

Very Close to historic Ajo and looked nicer than the 2 places on the north side of town. Full hook-ups, clean bathrooms, hot showers. Big pull through sites with some privacy. $12 per night for PA, $24 otherwise. Very convenient for Lukeville border.

Exactly as described over a year ago - no running water and the generator still hums away. Spot number 5 is abandoned because an elephant knocked down the shade tree. Our pick was number 4.

we stayed here one night. the roads to this point are sometimes very steep, but mostly in good condition. we asked a man by the houses on the other side of the street, and he welcomed us. muy tranquilo:)
the guave fruits where all full of worms, the lake is not good to swim because the shore is full of plants, but the view on the volcano is pretty.
I would say the long steep roads are not really worth to come to this point.
a few horses around. very green and cool temperature!!

Stayed 1 night in the very small upper parking lot as the bottom was completely full when we arrived at 4:30 pm. Planned on going in the hot springs but it never died down at all. Walked out to them and this is a very small pool (maybe 5-6 people comfortably). There were several people coming and going when we walked out there... they sounded drunk and also smelled of alcohol. Woke up at 6:30 am and already full of people. In my opinion not worth the visit or stay as people were up late and coming/going.

Crossed from Honduras into El Salvador with motorcycle. Easiest crossing so far in Central America. No fees and no helpers around (or needed). Total time 90 minutes - most of that because of a short queue to get the new TIP. This was a Saturday mid-morning. Note the road on the Honduras side leading to this border is very poor - definitely not one to do late in the day.

We are traveling with bicycles and came here because of the "abandoned house" camping spot indication on Maps.me.
The abandoned house doesn't exist anymore but instead there is Doña Blanca family house and almacén.
In front of the house there is a small chappel where she allowed us to put the tent sheltered from the wind.
There are plenty of leveled space for any kind of rig.
Several local cars and trucks stoped by in the evening (Saturday), and the place is visible from road, but practically no movement after midnight.
Doña Blanca was really nice to us, and was happy with letting us spend the night here.
The place has nothing in special but Doña Blanca's home made bread, but it is ok if you are short of options in this part of the road.
View of the mountain chains is amazing from this flat valley!

The beach road continues from here but is no longer paved. There's angled street parking in front of a condo building. Our rig is 7m long and fit. It was off season and only one other vehicle was here. Well lit, quiet and felt safe. Beach access at either end of the block. No services but there is 4G cell signal. Short walk to shops on main Street and there are restaurants around but this time year, most were closed. A little windy after midnight. Lovely sunset and sunrise. Was a bit noisybin morning as there is nearby building construction.

Locals told us we could not overnight here but to go to down towards beach and park along that street. There are a lot of no parking signs but it looks possible.

The smell of the orange blossom is lovely this time of the year. There are still oranges from the last harvest.
Sorry to say, the cheapest option is with electricity and water: $39. No dry camping offered.
Anyway it’s a luxuerous place to stay, because of the showers, the pool (didn’t try) and the orange trees.

Initially tried to go to Bandurrias laundry, only to find it closed on Saturday evening (because it's no longer summer). This was on the way back to our accommodation and we were happy to find it still open. We had about 3-4 kg washed in a single basket, for 200 clp, including socks! Friendly girl behind the counter. No English, but Google Translate :) Dropped clothes off just after 6 pm, picked up 2 hrs later.

Checked it out on. Saturday morning. They don't open until 5. It was 50 pesos for a bit shower. It's kind of like a locker room without lockers off an indoor concrete sports floor. Not very clean so wear your flip flops but it did the trick.

Grassy area with access for cars to the beach right in front of the two houses; it seems this spot is used for horses because there is a lot of poop around; in the night we had a weird experience when „somebody“pushed/pulled at our camper door and little later at our car doors...after some scary moments we recognized a horse moving back from our car....so..we felt not really safe this night...but these are our demons a good place for all kind of 2WD

Spent one night here, many curious people but it was all good. It's in front of the police (one of them didn't look very official and he asked for a "propina" for looking after our rig but I told him if we'd be willing to pay for sleeping we wouldn't be here but at a campground, he didn't insist) who manage the local public toilets (1 quetzal per person) right behind Banrural which also have showers (didn't try it). Collectivo to Semuc C (wait for them in front of 24/7 farmacia) cost us 15Q per adult and 10Q per child (2&4yo) on the way to Semuc and 20Q per adult on the way back but kids didn't pay.

Camped here one night. Windy but beautiful. Ran into the security man and he suggested to stay here. He would not even take a propina. Obviously no services. Couldnt even get my 3g data to work back in Tortugas which was a bit strange.

approached by a guy wanting to see my driving licence soon after I arrived at dusk. He didn't look official so I asked for his ID - he sent his friend off for his 'card', then admitted that he wasn't police but would call the police.. He was very concerned with people staying the night and leaving rubbish, saying last time there were beer bottles and other bits left all over the place. I showed him my bin and said not everybody was the same, but that I would leave.

Two minutes later he was back, inviting me to stay in his cabana for the night, saying he was trying to start a business but struggling to get bookings, and I could help him by reviewing it in the morning.. he was quite insistent. I declined and left - spent a peaceful night at Laguna Bonanza up the road instead (though was woken in the morning and charged $50 for staying)

Very nice grassy campground with pools, BBQs, tables, shade, electricity, pretty good WiFi and shelters (extra charge). We arrived Saturday afternoon in the rain. We were not surprised to find the gate locked closed, but (thanks to other feedback here on iOverlander) we persisted. The neighbor (in the house a little above the access road) called mr. Behne Jr. and she was instructed to find the key in mr. Behne's Sr. house, below.

Pools are empty (end of season), but with the temperature barely 22C, that's okay.

Very quiet (obviously), apart from the pretty healthy roosters in the henhouse, who start 'work' at 4:00 in the mornings.

Stayed 4 nights, paid 22 per person per night and they never mentioned the use of the shelter.
