Drove and parked up in the dried out river bed on beach for some shelter from april wind. beautiful place and very friendly local fishermen and army. careful of GPS coordinates, as maps.me takes you to the old army post, but the way down to the beach and the place to camp is on the other side of the river. gave army post a fiche, they come around from time to time to do "circulation" but just an excuse to say hi really.

One of my favorite spots in New Mexico so far. Road is mostly washboard which is annoying but fine to drive with 2wd. Drove to the trailhead sign but sand started getting deeper and I lost cell signal, as someone who needs to work, I headed back up to slightly higher elevation. Found a beautiful spot slightly before the hill with views and awesome cell service. Small bit of broken glass and bullet casing/shotgun shells, which I picked up. A little bit of traffic up/down the dirt road but nothing of bother. Incredibly dark.

We slept in our van in front of the Hostal Dany for a night as we were told that this region is safe. In the night I woke up by a headlamp through the window and asked loudly what's happening. In the morning I saw that the lock at the front door was damaged. Avoid this area.

we cambe back here on our way north. it is still 100 pesos a night. nice shaded area with river view. we didnt swim in it tho..

Nice place to camp!!! Hidden from the road. In case of rain 4x4 needed . We drove a little bit uphill where you can find a beautiful flat spot. Not reachable for big rigs if you want to go uphill.

I liked the place. Liked the "in town" setting with near by restaurants and shopping. Paid $350 one person/night April 2019.

Wide river to cross, approximately 100 meters and 50 centimeters deep when I was here (see photo). It is a flat area, so easy to enter and exit from the river. Did this in a Land Rover Defender without any problems, but it might be impossible when there has been a lot of rain. A group of local people maintain and have marked the track and will guide you through, but they asked a lot of money (10000 Naira) Was able to negotiate it down to 7000 CFA.
Motorbikes are transported on a boat here.

Last checkpoint on Nigerian side if you follow the route from Gembu - Dorofi - Ribao - Mayo Darlé. We had our passport and CDP already stamped in Gembu, but it looked like they could do it here as well.
The route suggested by maps.me was accurate but it is challenging and I think it is only doable in the dry season on a motor or in a compact 4wd when you have basic 4x4 driving skills. I did it in a Defender 110 without problems.
On rainy days roads might get to slippery and the river crossing is maybe too deep.
It took five hours from Gembu to Dorofi, this includes the time lost at the many checkpoints along the way. From here to Ribao took less than two hours and one more hour to go to Mayo Darlé. It will be faster on a motor.
Amazing scenery and a lot of fun if you like off-road driving.

Israel helped me remake the seat for my motorcycle to be much more comfortable as well as the have a cool cover custom made with blue leather and crocodile skin. he charged me 350 pesos and worked on my seat for about 3 hours. great guy and good skills.

It's a house abandoned, very quiet and lonely, we spent one night there, all was ok

Busy but good place to stay. Even with all the reviews we checked inside to make sure overnight parking was allowed. They just asked us to stay the at the back and towards the sams club. Walking distance to some restaurants. Several other campers in the lot. Good nights rest.

Nice places along the road. There are a few spaces where you can get to the lake with your car (right now the water level is very high). I stayed directly at the road because the more private spots were already occupied on the weekend. The road ends in the lake right now so there was no traffic after the fishermen left after nightfall.

What a wonderful and peace full place. Javier is an amazing host. He took care of me and my boyfriend show us around. You have the lake only for yourself. The sunrise is a hell of thing there. It’s full of birds and also there is a botanical garden where you can have a walk. Paid 75$ per tent and per night.
