Pretty okay cabaña in Villa Union. Mario owns two cabanas just off the Main Street. We were looking for a place we saw on booking.com but no one was there. Mario approached us and told us he has a rental unit available. We checked out the place and negotiated the price with him. He was asking 25.000 pesos but the one we were looking for was only 17.000 so he agreed on that price. The apartment has a big grassy area behind a gate to park the car. The downstairs apartment is a bit more basic (no AC, no electric kettle) than the one upstairs. Since we have all utilities in our van we opted for the cheaper one. The place is a bit old but clean sheets, towels and a hot shower. See picture for details. He’s available on WhatsApp

we paid $25 with 5% senior discount. very clean and beautiful park with off road ability, a small lake you can walk around on groomed pathways with benches.

Nice hostel to stay in. Like comments below explained, the place looks great, the breakfast is very good (be aware though if you're allergic, the chocolate Nutella kinda thingy has peanuts in it!! Learnt that the hard way 🫠), you can have dinner with veggie options every night provided you let them know beforehand, and they have women empowerment workshops where you can buy handmade and local products.
WiFi also works great, which is a big plus - at least it did the first few days, then the last few day not so much :/.

Another thing is, the prices seem to keep rising since it's been registered on the iOverlander app ^^. Now the dorm is 161 cedis (breakfast included). No mosquito net nor AC, but fans, no mosquitoes (the room is sprayed and thoroughly cleaned everyday), and plugs next to the beds. No locker to keep your stuff though, which is too bad.

Don Jaime and his Wife run the small restaurant on the way to to Cerro Tunari. On the weekend he catches trout's in the Laguna and sells them in the restaurant. I found them absolutely delicious! Plus it's an incredible scenery in over 4.000m. There is also Lama and some more dishes. A must stop after climbing Cerro Tunari.

Nice place to spend a night and leave your car when doing the Santa Cruz trek. Kind owners and fairly clean toilets and showers. 10 sol per night, doesn’t matter if you sleep in the car or just store it during the trek
