Nothing special good or bad about it. Worth the price. Paid TZS 25000 for one room, 2 people including breakfast.
Would recommend. You can easily walk into town from here, it's all quiet and not chaotic as other cities.

We arrived without booking and were a little concerned when we got to the gate as the place looked deserted. After hooting we saw someone coming down from the main house in the distance. We were so glad we didn't just turn around. What an amazing place and experience! All the sites had a private outside kitchen/cooking area, with huge, spotless ablutions just off from there. Hot water from a donkey boiler that worked like a bomb. Owners were fantastic and very friendly. Our daughter was up at there house playing with their daughter almost immediately. The walks into the desert and mountains were spectacular, and an early morning walk with Dawie, the owner, and his Kudu, was something quite special which we will never forget.

this is a refugio militar of the Argentinian army. Ask a guard for accomodation at the more Western entrance (picture to follow) and keep appropriate distance.
They gave me accomodation in a room with 6 bunk beds, but I have it to myself for 10.000 pesos (in cash).
Bathrooms are shared, but there was hardly anyone else here.
I asked and it seems like they are open all year and always have room. (not sure if they speak English so some Spanish skills might be needed)

FYI: go towards the end of the road you will see a signs for Hotel Playa Reina & Wahoo Restaurant maps had us turning too soon.
This is a very nice options for overlanders! As others mentioned we could plug in from one of the bungalows. I did yoga on the front porch of the bungalow too. This time of year there were surfers coming but not many staying at the hotel & bungalows. We were the only overland vehicle. Stayed 2 nights, restaurant food is ok nothing to write about.
There is a shower & bathrooms beside a small kitchen area if needed. Plus bathrooms at the restaurant. Swimming pool you are also allowed to use. First night Beautiful sunset!
When raining it is a red mud mess of parking lot…
$15. Per vehicle

It's a small, free parking area that is quiet enough, if tuned cars don't come with loud exhausts and music. The sound of the waves is usually louder than the avenue. It was not a problem to use the toilets in McDonald's, even without buying something.

Crossing from Uganda to Kenya

You will drive down a hill and there are a few men that will offer their services as border agents, but you don’t need anyone. Drove all the way down the hill and turn right in front of the gate to the parking in front of the customs. The immigration is in house with no signs in the backyard. We asked at the customs and he showed the right building to us. Took a bit to get the exit stamp as the system was slow but got it after 10 minutes. Back at the customs we got the Carnet stamped and our vehicle TIP exited. Afterwards he had a short look in the car and we drove to the Kenyan side. There are two bridges and we had to take the smaller one on the right coming from Uganda.

In Kenya we were directed to park in front of a blue gate. Customs and immigration are all in the same building. First we got the entry stamp and no problem with the East Africa Visa. In the upper part of the building we went to the customs and had to explain to him how to fill out the Carnet. We also asked if we need to pay Road Tax, but he said only commercial vehicles have to pay. So that was easy and we were in Kenya. Can recommend this border even if it’s a detour from the main ones as it’s really relaxed and straightforward.

Update on the Kenyan Road Tax:
We shipped our car out from Mombasa and our agents asked us for the document and were surprised that we didn’t have it. But in the end it was no problem we just got our Carnet stamped at the port and saved the 40$.

I think the most basic hotel we have been on our Africa travel. Avoid if possible. No moskito net (we mounted our own one), no fan…

They Stamped out our Carbet here. The mister at the office took it very exact and filled some other forms too. But after 30min the Carnet was stamped.
Immigration next to it. But they couldn‘t stamp us out and told us to go to the border post. Direction Dorofi.

Nice well kept state campground right on the beach. about 3 miles down a narrow very windy road that was filled with pot holes, wouldn't recommend taking a RV but there were plenty of vans. $34 for a tent site, quick minute walk to the beach, bathrooms were clean and showers were warm. Elk were blocking the road in for a bit so watch for wildlife on your way in.

The first .6 miles are no camping then you all the sudden get to this RV party at the bottom of a hill. There’s a ton of RV’s at the bottom but if you go up the hill there’s spots just be careful and wouldn’t try to go up the hill if it rained or is going to rain. We managed to find a spot that has privacy and the views are great, service is ok only 1 bar Verizon LTE but so far I’ve been able to load everything and work here. Lots of OHV’s but have yet to see anyone ride one yet. Went on a walk and the people seemed nice. I would definitely come here again.

The park was a stopgap solution because the parks around Lake Waco were closed due to flooding. It is very noisy there because the highways pass very close by. Otherwise everything was OK. The price of $46 was too high. Washers and dryers available.

Great spot for camping - paid 100,000 som for 2. No food nearby so bring what you need. We didn’t even need to pitch a tent, we slept on the beds provided. Great spot for sunrise and sunset.

We did the border cross through Dorofi on a motorbike. Two people on one bike. Very challangin road. The Cameroon side is pretty easinand looks like they are upgrading the street to tar at the steep bits. But the Nigeria side is done. We had a dry day, dont attemp if wet.. the ferry crossing was ok and 1000naira.
One thing, i dont think this is possible by car at the moment. Not the ferry crossing and the street in general. Pretty done!!!

Great place to spend a night (or more!). Large parking area with grass, all facilities available (water, toilets, shower,….) and a great time to welcome you there. Highly recommended !
We have a big rig, 4m high. The access track is narrow but feasible. We broke some thin branches in passing...

It is still an easygoing border. We got the stemp on both sides in a short time.
Border is open from 8am until 6pm.
The road to Piet Retief was once paved. Most of the tarmac is now gone but still rideable. We are traveling by bicycle 🚲
