I am making a new entry because contrary to what the motorcyclist says in the close-by entry, you CAN park a car here. There is a little stretch of sandy road going up if you turn right just before the bridge. It was perfectly level, it could even fit two cars. After 50 meters or so it rurns into a footpath, so no worries for traffic. At the start of the footpath there is mountain water taken bij tubing,
I guess for the people living downwards. I guess it is good drinking water, but I didnt try.

OK for the night, quiet and not alone (tents, rigs, van,...).

One of the better places in the area. It need some maintenance.
Everything Phill and Angie wrote is there. And the yoga classes still there.
Price we paid was 500Mt for 2 persons and 4x4.
If you don't mind a walk to the beach, then this is the place.
We recommend it.

Place for a night. Nice and friendly lady runs a small shop close to the place and watching over us. Recommend to buy something in her business.

They also offer tours to South Lipez. I recommend the 4 nights tour ( we did the 5 nights but in rainy season it would have been better the 4 nights as some routes are not practicable even in 4x4 ). There is a well guarded garage close by to leave your vehicle while on tour. Roads are washed and not advisable to drive with a non 4x4 camper - at least in rainy season. We drive a total of 1200 km. We paid for the 5 nights all inclusive 1400USD ( private car price - same if you are 2 - 3 or 4 . Additional are the park fees and 50 usd per room per night if you want to upgrade to private room with ensuite bathroom .

Campsite in the middle of a small village . Showers and toilets are outdated , cold . Non of the toilets have seats and no showerheads . Although the campground is well maintained . At least 50 picnic tables and bbq's in the best condition as we have seen in Arg . Public swimmingpools are next to the campground . Entrance fee for swimmingpool is only P 40 p.p .
Pools are very clean , water is clean and clear . Fresh painted .
Campsite is free , as manager of the pool told us . Electricity available at the podium area . No wifi .
Potable water available on different points .

Good free option to camp. Lots of other overlanders. We were lucky it wasn’t windy when we camped here. Very open area and probably not suitable for roof top tents on very windy days. Potable water spigot across the road next to the park’s visitor center.

Appears to be the wrong location. Maps will lead you down an overgrown road. The info office is in the middle of town. There's also drinkable water at a tap at the YPF opposite the tourist info.

Going from Chile to Argentina we first had to go to the booths on the right where they stamp your passports, then you loop back and get in line to the left of the buses as mentioned. Friday early afternoon took us 2-2.5hrs. They knew to give me a TIP, took my Chilean one, passport, and vehicle registration and came back in 5 minutes with an Argentina TIP. Did not ask for insurance and the fruit/veggies check was super lax.

awesome place in the np. Beautiful and our favorite campground from the park. Also a nice short ride to the small waterfall.

Beautiful lake in a semi functional campground. Mostly used as a day use area for locals. Party’s can be loud on the weekend. We stayed two nights Friday and Saturday. Paid 450 pesos per night for our 33’ rig w 5 people and 2 dogs. The electric is sketchy and only works at night. The restrooms aren’t great. The place has a ton of potential. Appears they are making progress to improve.

I stayed here last night with lots of other RV's. Security didn't care. I think it changes all the time. Sometimes they tolerate overnight parking, sometimes not.

Loved this campground!!! Super friendly owners who made us free breakfast. They are really sweet. The view is absolutely amazing, especially at sunset. We could park our car besides the private, really clean bathroom (cold shower and really clean toilet) and a sink for washing clothes or dishes. They also let us wash our car. Paid 5000 per night. They also have beautiful cabins with amazing views for 30 usd. There is WiFi which works average. Highly recommended!

Do not have too high expectation. The traffic is really heavy at some parts, drivers always in rush and if you consider the views spectacular you've probably not seen much from Colombia yet. We were quite disappointed.

Thursday night and we had a very quiet one. No car noises, its around a 100 meters from the road with hardly any traffic. No people here at any time.
No wind protection, usual rubbish, plenty of space and many seabirds in the late afternoon. Nothing fancy but better than next to the campground.

Small family-run campsite, 350 for 2p and one car. The view is amazing and the shower was the best we ever had on this trip: hot and a lot of pressure. No toilet seats though...

Great place to camp before heading over the border. Not sure if I caught it at the right time but rivers are flowing over multiple sections of the road to get to the camping area. Be careful if you’re on a motorcycle, very slippery!

Great surfspot and camping. We stayed here 4 nights and only had to pay once... 50 pesos pp.
There’s an outdoor shower with fresh water and a pit toilet.
Cell service near the lighthouse.
Fishermen come by in the afternoon to sell their fish.
Very long lefthander when the swell is on point. Rocky bottom and clear, warm water! Watch out for urchins.
The turn-off to the dirtroad is 14miles after the El Cien sign when coming from the North. Manageable without 4x4!

the boats go too much close to the piguinos. There is no doubt that they are disturbed during nidification. The species are in danger of instinction so we preferred to see them from the beach. Just be conscious of the impact of this tourist attraction

After a long and challenging drive frim Lanquin, we got a warm welcome by the friendly people that run the place. Our truck is 3,25 meters high and we just fit under the gate. Being the first to jump in the incredibly beautiful puddles in the morning is really worth the bumpy drive!
We've managed to do the road to Semuc without problem, with a little sweat though. We drive a 4,5 ton 2x4 high clearance rig. Reconsider if you drive a crappy camper...

nice camp, $25 reals p/p. just outside of Penedo (Also a nice little town, German pubs, a little touristy but still nice). there is electric at some spots, some shade, flat grass, I'm not sure about a kitchen qbut there are ok toilets and shower, nothing fancy. the views are amazing, it's in the jungle on the way to the national park and there is a beautiful stream at the entrance which you can take a dip in. the lady that runs it lives in the house here and she only speak portuguese, but she's very nice. 3 little dogs here too. a little buggy but this is brazil....

It’s not exactly a nice place but it’s conveniently located, WIFI is pretty fast (when it works), the showers are scalding hot (when you are lucky and the boiler is full), and Ciro, the owner, is as friendly as a businessman can be. To give it a rural feel it’s pretty dusty (muddy when wet), chicken are running all over the place and the area around our car was covered with chicken shit. We had two quiet nights there and there was no rooster waking us up early in the morning.
There are plenty of other estacionamientos públicos in the immediate surroundings, some of them looking cleaner from outside; might be worth to check them out.

Fantastic place! As for established campgrounds: stopping here was one of my better experiences in the region. Having made it a base camp for a couple of days I got a lot of opportunities to have fireside chats with the owners (Ricardo and Ricardo) and another great Aussie couple that were staying here. Great people, great conversations! The fire was going around the clock in the very nice common building keeping you nice and toasty warm. The valley it sits in is incredibly picturesque and close to some of the attractions in the area. The private bathrooms are a nice touch. I had stayed in town the previous day and can say the camping was not nearly as nice in town. It is highly worth stopping in town to grab some supplies and heading straight here to camp. My only regret is that I didn’t try Ricardo’s cafe sooner: just before leaving I tried out his Churrasco and it was amazing - one of the better sandwiches I had in the last 3 months in Chile (if not the best)... and the fresh out of the oven lemon pie !!! so good! So even if you don’t stay, plan to stop at the cafe on the way to the attractions (I think he mentioned being open between 9a-9p most days): it’s well worth it! Enjoy!
