Our front bearing broke down in the middle of nowhere and after driving more then 50km we were very lucky to find Fernando and his garage in Rosarito. We had to wait 2 days for the piece, so we stayed at his home 2 days without a problem. He drove us 150km to get the piece and he fixed it in 30 minutes. We paid a fair price for it. I would recommend it to everyone!

Spent Thanksgiving camped on the beach. This is a great site to gain access to the beach. if you have 4wd pull up to the edge of the grass and enjoy a night next to the ocean. make sure you pay attention to when and where high tide will be!

Old Farm about 200m away from the road. Big level ground for parking. We met two people here and asked them if we could stay the night. It seemed like they get visitors from time to time. There is a reliable but slow (E) mobile internet signal here.

Not sure of this is the correct location. There is a abandoned house here, but it is in no way accessible to a big rig. Even a car would have problems driving in. There is a much larger place a few km up north, I added the location as a new spot.

Friendly but rather messy place (partly caused by bungalow construction work in progress). We were invited to put our car here and use toilet and shower free of charge (we gave them IDR 50,000 per night). We were welcomed by the friendly, well English speaking owner with tea and coffee. Good Telkomsel 4G. The place had electricity, but we didn't ask if we could use it.

Beautiful and friendly place. We tried to stay here and the owner made a sincere effort to help us, but there was no way to accommodate our car. However, this might be an excellent place if you have a tent. Cold shower and toilet were available.

Slept here for 3 nights. Like said before it's very basic and held by a young nice couple. Sometimes the dogs shat on the floor, so be careful in the morning for landmines. Seems to be a very slow long process to finish the whole renovation. They are improving.

Don't come too late in the evening as it fills up! There are 8h spots and 1h and 15mins spots for cars. Noise isn't too bad at night. Had a good night's sleep. Stayed for about 12 hours and nobody bothered us.

This campground is decent but not great.
Lots of trees for shade, many ranchitos, little restraunt allmost all of the spots you can park your car for camping a gravel/sand.

Faceing the water to the left there is an area of the lake with much warmer water because of vulcanic activity. Ask where to check if you can swim there or boat tours take you there.

The sporty kind can swim around the island and see from the water all the fancy rich houses built on there.

Toilets rather run down
Outdoor shower by the pool.

Just across the entry there is a road which connects with the road RN10 to head to the vulcanoes without having to go all the way to El Congo around the lake. Sid not make it with oir FWD van but a 4x4 in 4L makes it easily.

Such a nice grass to camp on. Very thick, no ants and after 2 days camping no sign of wear at the entrance to our van. View of the lake from your campspot.

Live music (guy with a karaoke machine) everday until 17:00. Not that annoying from the place you camp at but unfortunately music from some neighbour (likely El Faro) continues until later.

10usd (2 + camper)
Tried to negotiate to stay for free aslong as we consume. And the offer was just if we consume more than 40usd pn.

Water of the lake has a very nice and not too fresh temperature to swim in.

Jet skiis and their fumes are rather annoying when swimming.

Best spot for shade is between play ground and tree (closer to tree than playground) stones or wood blocks to level car to be found along the walls.

Best spot for your solar system is on the right side on the flat spot next to the gray garbage hut (depending of wind direction you will get whiffs of it).

Ask guard to turn on pump for water.

Pay booth for Volcan Santa Ana

6usd per forgeiner
3usd per Salvadoreño
Discriminatory as always, especially when considering that forgeiners do tend know how to behave in nature like staying on the trails, use adequate shoes, not littering and not yelling.

This area is good wind protected so maybe you can ask to tent camp here. And if you are allowed to do so please add this campspot on ioverlander.

Volcan Santa Ana 13.83717, -89.62665

Big flat grassy area fits big rigs even with shade across the soccer field.

It is a place focused on big student groups sleeping in dorms and tents to then experience the nature. Ask if they are expecting a group and if not you get the place to yourself.

Cold showers and good water pressure
Covered Sink for dish washing and BBQ with chimney next to the aisle with all the rooms.

Of the official campspots likely the one with best wind protection when camping underneath the trees.

3usd pp pn

20m further down the road towards Campo Bello is a path which takes you in 5min to the Santa Ana pay booth. A sign saying Ilamatepec makes this easy to find.
