Free rec site near the San Josef beach trail. Maybe 10 sites... very worn down and muddy, but will do for a few nights. Fire pits and picnic tables (some broken) at all sites. Better pit toilets at the parking lot entrance to the trail. Also, a nice cooking shelter near the trailhead for when it’s raining!

Place to refill your propane tank. You need to ask in the shop and then, they’ll give you the directions on how to do it. In our case, they asked us to go around the block and then a lady met us there to refill the tank.

Campground back open, and still no fee to stay. Pit toilets were also unlocked. No AT&T service. Very quiet and pleasant.

This diner is open 24hrs. Variety of food styles, Tex-Mex, pizza, hamburgers, steaks, and of course breakfast foods. Several Socorro Police officers and Socorro County deputies were eating there late at night while we were there. One of the only places to get a good meal overnight in town.

The views are awesome. But y'all. The wind is insane here. Still worth staying here for the view and proximity to the Badlands NP entrance.

Spots to the right (long spots for RVs) were taken (there’s only about 5). We saw a few parked on the left side of building, but opted to simply pull our truck and 17ft travel trailer into two conjoining spots farthest away from the door and had no issues. Lots of walkable food options in the plaza. Good for one night.

Great place to cool down in the summer. Actually a restaurant and cafe directly on the river. But the very friendly owner allows overnight camping. Lots of space, toilets, river swimming and pool, restaurant... He asked us to pay what we think, so we gave 50L for a big rig.

Restaurant with a huge, graveled parking lot, also for buses and trucks. Suitable also during rainy season. Well suited for overnight stays, on the edge also for roof tents. Currently not visible on Google Maps.

We went from Sambia to Tanzania. (4 hours).
Since May 3rd there are more severe Covid requirements. You need a PCR Test certificate. We only had the quick test since this is the only available in Mbala and Nakonde hospitals (for free though, and quickly done). for PCR you need to go to Mansa or Kasama.
At the one stop border post we were told that car fumigation is obligatory now. Because we questioned this we were called into the office of the health superior who lectured us for 45min. He also told us that our quick test is not valid and that he will send us back to Sambia. At the end he filled in a certificate for no Covid symptoms for each of us (20’000 shillings each). Together with fumigation of the car (30’000 shillings) we got through.
The requirements are all new for them too. So maybe this will evolve further.

Very nice hotel with a nice ambience. It's been here more than 50 years now. We parked our 11 ton MAN on the hard standing next to the hotel and ablutions block (good). Electricity and water available and adjacent to pitch. Good food. Lovely bar with a fire lit each evening. We paid $5 pppn. Stayed 5 nights. Great hiking.

This is a very nice Boondocking spot for a smaller rig. You are right next to a crater. Very nice view south to the Steens. You can hike or bike the road. Good Verizon and ATT service. Enjoy.

I don't know where the 'no overnight' report originated but that's not accurate.
A great stop, plenty of parking, TEN RV parking places and plenty of other parking 'to boot'. Big Rig with toad will likely want to parallel park in the very back consuming the 'normal' spaces (after, or late, hours) since the RV spaces are only about 40 feet long.

I-10 construction will cause Garmin GPS to have some fits after you exit the highway so you will need to keep focused, use common sense, and eyes open or you'll miss the entrance.

There are trees in all the right places to provide the much sought shade protection from the Texas heat. Parking places are level, although there is a bit of slant to the entire lot for water runoff (after all you're in the coastal area where it regularly rains). The 'natural' front-to-back angle of our 21ft van made it easy to park facing North and be quite level.

The position of the store, relative to I-10, makes for a quiet night. There is a nearby airport so we did 'hear' a couple planes after 10pm. Staff at this CB is just as friendly and helpful as are the vast majority of CB's.

as the main comment says, getting off 143 onto this little dirt road is quite difficult. made it in our standard clearance F150 towing a tiny home in an enclosed trailer. be careful and take it slow, as this place is fully worth it. the parking circle is classic with a couple fire pits and a peninsula for smaller vans or tenters to go to. we were backed up by the 'tree of life'.

once you're parked and settled in, take a walk past that tree of life and down into the valley. you will find animal trails everywhere. follow it down to the little stream and enjoy some grass (and flower if you're smart) on your feet, check out the white rocks & go climb up them if you wish. be careful, but it's an incredible view at the top.

we planned to stay only one night and ended up doing three. lovely little gem of a spot!

no cell service whatsoever, but it makes ya appreciate the place more!

ps... please clean up your trash and be respectful of mother nature, you dirty SOB.

Great spot while driving through on 80. Road turns to dirt immediately after the exit ramp but was well maintained for any vehicle to access.
One vehicle there when we arrived late. One additional vehicle was there when we woke up, someone fishing. Some road noise but nothing significant.
Outhouse was better then expected considering other comments about this location. It was rustic but clean and well stocked with toilet paper.
