This was the nicest spot to camp in El Chalten. We had a peaceful night and good sleep.

I crossed from USA into MX here on 4/6/24.
The interstate I-2 on the USA side is under SERIOUS reconstruction and there are delays.
See image below for a routing suggestion
It looks like the construction will take some time, so avoid crossing here or expect delays.
I was traveling by motorcycle. came out of the USA. There is an EZ-pass lane but it apparently requires and special "membership" which I did not have, but I may look into it.
I entered one of the "nothing to declare" lines. The camera system took my picture and the bike's picture and I rode across the bridge without any interactions with customs.

Construction present on the other side of the bridge as well. There was some signage more or less straight out from the bridge with city names, but no one was going that direction so I followed the crowd and turned right. I was dumped out into a main street in MX with no clear indication of what to do next. I turned left (away from the border) and a short distance up the road were signs for immigration. I turned left into the compound. take your first right and you can park in front of the large concrete bldg. with the bulging aluminum roof line (see pics from other post). There is a large sign there at the far end that says "entrance". Take all your paperwork and head inside. Show passport get an FMM fill it out. They don't care where you are staying you can leave that blank.
Take it back pay your tourist fee, i forget exactly how much it was but not eye-popping. Get copies of the completed FMM and move along to a desk on the right side of the main aisle and a person will help you start the TVIP process.
Go further down and the pay the deposit at the bank window (they need the copies you had made). At that point the process is complete. While traffice on the bridge was backup badly (partly due to construction) There was almost no one in the bldg. I was one of less than 10 overlanders processing paperwork, pretty effortless. Continue on out the other end of the parking area and you are in MX.

I found out that the little white bldg with the green roof that is out in the middle of the parking lot is only for CANCELLATION of your TVIP. There is no reason to stop there on the way into the country. (Things might have been different in the past).

Hope this helps!

Absolutely serene. One of our favorite dry camping spots ever, with a very clean forest service pit toilet. There were three deer grazing in the woods when we arrived, completely unbothered by our presence. The sweet spring babble of the creek, ample shade, nice picnic tables. I would make this a destination spot to return to. Love how out of the way it is, and 191 is a beautiful road. All in all a wonderful place to stay during the spring in AZ. We have a Volks/Atlas all wheel drive pulling a 5x10 and did just fine with careful maneuvering. Gorgeous crystals in the area too. We were the only ones. Two vehicles drove through during the day, and about two others drove past on the road. This is out of the way.

Great spot. Spent 3 nights here. On the first day, a few locals stopped by for the day. The rest we had the place for us alone.

Small caravan on the D707, lovely spot to stop for a cold drink or warm coffee. They also create special biscuits with beautiful painting on it.

It’s a pretty farm with cattles, sheeps and horses, surrounded by the mountains.

The local farmers own the place and are very welcoming!

Nice campground with good electricity and water. Close by the downtown where is perfect to eat, buy wines and artesanatos. We paid ARS 8.000 for 2 people and the motorhome.

This place is a treat. A newer building, super clean, and air conditioning! Good wifi, TV works..
They gave us a deal at 125 for a big room with 2 queen beds for 2 people, with air con, including a super basic breakfast.
The cochera (not part ofnthe hotel!) 100meters down the road is expensive now 10 per 12 hours! But I feel like that might be a gringo price and like they were making changes to the price based on our fancy truck .. so find elsewhere to park if you need parking. It has no height limit and is secure but the owners are sketchy. If you can't make sure you establish pricing for the whole time you are there including the morning you leave as they'll try to tack on another day if it isn't agreed.
Highly reccomend the hotel though!

Asked supervisor about staying, they said they weren't sure and that they wouldn't be responsible for any thefts, ect. but we stayed for the night anyway. It was fairly noisy throughout the night but we survived.

Great workshop. Friendly and competent staff. Solved our problems by ordering parts from Lima and ensuring that they were there by next morning so we didn't have to overstay too long in Huaraz. Very reasonable prices.

quiet and secluded. had to rebuild the fire pit but was clean. the road in was really rough. I wouldn't recommend a low-lying vehicle.

35 sols in a double room, still good in 2024. Clean. My bike felt secure in the courtyard as it is out of sight. The main doors are not locked but one of the owners is almost always there at the entrance.

Great place to stay a night, with clear policy and signage. About 8 or so rigs of all types and sizes staying here on a Saturday night in April, but plenty of space for everyone.

Washboard road but easy enough to navigate to several pull offs. Some with fire rings. Saw several rigs that appeared to be there for a length of time. OHVs ran on Saturday until about 9pm. Felt safe.

We have spent a night here because it was getting late. Actually very quiet until around 5:30am when the trucks started to leave. Lots of truckers spend the night here and some locals came to us and told us it's safe. So we can recommend this place for the night.
They locked the toilets during the night.

Slept here two nights without problems. Quiet in the night and the best place if you want to visit Petra in the early morning. Not very busy during the day at the moment (because of the Israel-crisis)…

Great stay in a small gravel lot on the right hand side of the road just before the Muir Creek bridge. Walkway behind takes you to the beach in a few minutes where we saw eagles, river otters and seals. Lovely sunset there too. No signs to say no overnight camping. It’s a beautiful free spot so please keep this place clean for future use! Enjoy!

A great place to camp! It's not far from the road, but still secluded. We stayed here for one night and entered Etosha via the Galton Gate the next morning. Many cows and goats walked by during the day, but at night it was completely quiet.

Multiple units available here, located in Shower/Restroom buildings. $1.50 Wash & $1.50 dry. To my knowledge this is the only place to do laundry within a 50 mile radius of larger towns. *Also free hot showers in Laundry buildings as well. H20 & Sewer dump available as well. 🙏
