The road was closed just before the first camping place, so I decided to turn around and find some other spot. The road until the closure was muddy and snowy and I had to use 4wd. I didn't know it's closed in winter.

Nice camp area just east at the end of the trailhead. There are a few campsites with firepits and easy to get to. Some freeway noise but otherwise quiet and out of view of the trailhead parking lot. The short hike down to the Agua Fria river is nice and has some good swim holes. Some cellphone signal, but down in a valley so a booster helps.

It was somewhere in early 2020 when we visited here and then they hadn’t yet officially ”opened” to public yet. The whole project was quite new(?). The guys showing us around seemed nice and caring about the baby elephants. We also met the little ellies and spent some time with them. However, close interactions with all visiting public are always a bit ”two-bladed sword”. We haven’t been here since (writing this in March 2023) so don’t know how the operations go now and when the ellies taken care of here are to be released (or where etc.). Back then they seemed to do good work with genuine heart. And we saw that the entry fee today is high but it’s a good thing if most of it really goes to the animals and their rehabilitation (and not only for the community). Should you visit? Yes, we think. It was a good place. There are a lot of not-good places a bit like this around Africa where the animals are but exploited for human’s entertainment and for profit (and sometimes never released back into the wild), but this place seemed not to be one of them.

We stayed in this place with two dozens of trucks and felt safe. Of cause it wasn‘t quiet at all but mostly it was a constant noise and sleeping was allright. The friendly guard kept waiting till we gave him 100 Mex$.

$45 for a dusty gravel lot. Have to pay for hookups even if not needed. Tent sites available, can't stay there in a vehicle. Showers are extra, $2 for 6 minutes. Spotty, 3G Verizon. Staff were reluctant to give WiFi password and WiFi doesn't work in RV park.
Told by a local that this RV park is not on city water and we were warned not to hook up to water, nor drink the water. Local said they've heard, "horror stories" of people's RV water systems getting ruined and people getting sick.

it's tricky to find it as GPS doesn't have the small streets, but go around the block until the end and you'll see a black gate, that is it. Cecilia is really fun and talkative they both invited us to breakfast and to their cacao farm

it's a windy place, ok, but we weren't lucky. We had very very strong wind in the night. Van Parked facing the wind, in the middle of two tall bushes. terrible night. we thought that the stones raised by the gusts of wind would damage the glass of the car. in morning the wind was little calmer. no damage at the Van !!!

We tried to find the flower place but it is either not there anymore or we missed it so we are at the hotel. 15 U S to set up our camper for the night in the court yard. Shower and toilet to use. Will be good for an early start to the border. There are also roasters so they will get us up in the morning or keep us awake allnight.

12R per person. 115R for truck camper. Just pull up and jump in the line. Then pay when you get to the toll booth. Or send passenger to walk up and pay. Terminal has bathrooms, WiFi, food stands. We waited in line for about 1.5 hours on a busy Sunday afternoon.
