La Vuelta al mundo en N días | This area was recommended by the guy at the tourist info center, not as nice as the other place near the bridge but is fine. Other people with tents here when I arrived but left the next day. There is an inexpensive campground at the entrance (3000CHL per person if you need services) |

dgrolfe | Everything is good on this road. Short bumpy section at top, but nothing to worry about. Wonderful drive and lots of waterfalls right on the side of the road. Recommend! Also several towns where it would be easy to camp for a night next to a basketball court, in front of a church or football field. |

marie.go4 | Small store but where you’ll find everything you might need that is made out of rubber. Great discovery!! They also have some car parts (most have rubber in it;)), electrical or plastic small parts. Worth passing by if you need something you feel you won’t find it anywhere. We bought different rubber things to improve/change the seals in our van, and some plastic fixer for cardboard panel of our doors. |

instagram.com/lenomadevan | This checkpoint has some friendly officers. BUT 5-10 kilometers down the road going west there’s another checkpoint. There was a police car parked and three guys wearing police apparel. A young guy approached the vehicle and started checking every single paper we had and took a tour of the van. He said he’d write me a ticket or I could give him money. His reason was because I don’t have my Mexican insurance printed, although I asked many police officer on my way into Mexico about it and no one said that I needed it. Anyways, I showed him it on my phone and he was still asking for money. I ended up giving him 100 pesos and he got a grin on his face and let us through. It was the first time we got bribed in Mexico. Oh well, part of the adventure I guess. |

sidewaysmoon.com | On the site of the historic San Pedro textile factory the local community has a project museum...they purchased the factory (now empty) and now give tours where you can learn the history of blanket and textile weaving, but even more interesting about the life and customs of the indigenous people. $5 per person. With a group of ten or more and advance notice, Rene, the head of the project, can arrange demonstrations of tradition weaving (they have both backstrap, as well as wooden mechanical looms), as well as with the curandero or “sabio ” who explains the medicinal herbs and healing ceremonies. Contact Rene at 062903879 or Mila at 093853344. English speaking guides usually available. Also can consult on other nearby places to visit as it is convenient to the local sites around Otavalo. Lastly, if you are considering shopping at the market in Otavalo, come here first and learn how to distinguish real hand loomed ponchos and blankets from the machine made versions. There also is a shop where you can buy the real thing at reasonable prices. |

swindler | This place was indicated to us by the administration of the park. It's in a right turn right after the bridge. The area is flat and you can get some protection from the wind if it's coming from the West. You definitely get some shade in the morning thanks to the bushes.

lapenaabejorral.com | Beautiful campground, has everything you need in great conditions. Initially we wanted to camp but opted for a cabin (45.000 pn) because there was a storm coming. The cabin is ok, a bit expensive in my opinion but it includes a hot wood fired tub which is amazing. I would definitely stay again, althoug not sure if the price for the cabin is worth it. |
