We did spend whole day at these ruins. The guards/guides were friendly bunch, knowladgable and willing to also share additional local information.

We asked about the possibility to stay overnight there..... It was hard to get straight answer as our request seemed unusual to them. In any case, the price they asked was 100pesos (1 camper van, 2 people) for a spot without any light, fences, guards, no dogs - 2 km from the village.

At the end we opted for overnight parking in the village (lights, safe, free), just in front of the Community Center, only1/2 block from a Community Cenote. (separate iO database listing)

The aduana is in the propertie of the mines. The gate of the mines was closed and nobody in the security hut. We parked in front of the gate and walked to the customs office which had a sign on the wall. Inside it looked like a proper office with shelf full of document boxes. Officer could speak English and was reasonably nice. He came out to check vin and finished paperwork quickly. I took a picture of the stampped TIP and he said thst's a good idea in case the migration guys want to check. The road from the mines was very muddy for about 20kms but sometimes one could drive on the side tracks which were dry (but sands might be deep sometimes)

Stayed one night in the parking lot with our 21ft motorhome. If you follow the signs from the highway, all of the road is paved until the entrance. Felt safe and had a quiet night. Nobody asked for a fee. Great swim in the warm river and lake. The surrounding area is muddy and a bit run down. Dogs are ok on the (huge) parking lot.

It's a tourist information office with a big lawn area.
Easy to stay here. They let us in though we came around 9pm and the office closes at 6pm. Fast internet (router is in the bathroom).
Try out the Blues restaurant you can spot from here.

A few hundred meters from the junction Vizcayacu/San Pedro de Querque, there is a quarry with a little muddy laguna. Drive towards Querque and use the first path at the right to access it. Most places in the quarry are hidden from the roads. Very quite.

Nice protected pine tree camping area right on the water. Some shelters with table and chairs. Has baños but they are closed at night. Cold showers on beach.
Is normally a fee to get in but we arrived late and no gate to stop you going in.

To get there...
As you drive south through Saavedra you can see the beach and camping across the water. Follow waters edge around till you go past the shops and just before you get to the beach there is a gravel road on the right. Go along gravel road and you will eventually arrive at the pine trees after about 1km.
Some small huts selling goods like snacks and inflatables. kayak hire also available. Local guy selling empanadas in the morning too.

Swimming pool with low entrance fee.
At toddler time (10-12 on weekdays), it cost us $3,50 for one toddler and two parents.
Showers included, obviously.

Great value for money (10000ush pp). Nice view, good hot shower (donkey)! Really cheeky monkeys when you prepare food. It was quite busy when we were there so toilet was not so clean.

It’s not really suited for overlanders with rtt. Ground tent will work! We managed to pull into a spot behind the toilet building with our car, so we were not on the parking lot. If you have a big car this will not work. The site is still under construction (therefore no sign I guess) but it looks promising. We paid 50.000ush for the spot with use of cold shower (hot shower available on request) in a very nice cottage tent. Food available (we cooked ourselves so don’t know quality and price). Really friendly and helpful staff. It might be worth to take a look.

Amazing view from the top of the 3 Volcanos to the north east and the huge Tronador in the south. Sadly Osorno and Puyehue were in clouds. Maps.me says 4.2km one way and except for the last 500m it’s seems to be not as strenuous as the ascend to Cerro Colorado we did the day before even though it’s 300m more up. Did it up in 2h with several photo stops and girlfriend. Can totally be done in 90min if you leave your girlfriend at home;-).

Very nice place with extremely helpful owner-family who sincerely enjoys having guests and offer their help all the time. Especially the cabaña for 2 persons is great with a nicely equipped kitchen, wood Stove and the most comfortable bed you can imagine (45.000-48.0000 clp). Prices at the moment same as low season because they are working on the guests kitchen which is still not available. Totally recommend.

Entrance still 15 BZD pp. Beautiful ruines, the best we‘ve seen in Belize actually. Mitary
convoy leaves check point at 9:30 and drives back at 14:00, no need to drive with them if you don’t want. Just sign in & out in the book.
The road is in an ok-condition, took us about 2.5h from the highway to the ruins in total. No 4x4 needed, a couple of stretches quite rough though. Everything changes when wet, can get muddy and slippery easily.

I didn’t like the pizza , the taste of the crust was not good in my opinion . Pasta was not fresh and soup tasted like those you get in a package. Not recommended . Also to expensive for the quality of the food .

Super friendly owner Neil bought the place 1,5 years ago and upgraded all the bungalows and the restaurant ever since!
Nice camping down at the creek, very clean toilets (flush / with TP) available at the restaurant.
Meals (no menu, everything fresh prepared according to availability) looked and smelled good (didn’t eat there ourselves because we had groceries that needed to be used unfortunately)
Neil gives you great advice what to do in the area, we stayed two nights and drove to Caracol and back from the Lodge
Price: BZD 10 pppn, plus if you sit in the restaurant area (with fast wifi btw) he kindly asks you to consume anything in return which is a fair deal!
Great spot for overlanders - thank you Neil!!

They built two large parking lots at the lake. It is very windy, some trees and bushes give you some shelter. The place is now clean.

We spent here 4 nights for free. Nice place and secure because of the port security (one at each side). They are very friendly and helpful. Quiet at night. No toilet and shower nearby. Near city center (10min walk).
