Big, safe camping with a restaurant. Camping is near the street but it is big enough to park far from the street. Flat grassy area, shade spots with trees. There are spots with a roof for tents. Clean bathrooms with seats (toilets are small as usual in Latin America), hot showers (three for men and three for women), potable water. Sinks for washing. No wifi, no dump station. Entrance gate has no height restriction. Good camping for big rigs and tents also. Pet friendly. We paid 40R PP (without electric) in extremely high season. The carparks (spots on IO) wants 70R for a night only. A supermarket nearby but you can walk to center and Walmart (named BIG in Brazil) in 20 minutes. We stayed three nights with our Sprinter

As told before nice and friendly place - guess there are not many places like this in Surinam. Kids from the neighborship come and use the pool. Nettie, who is responsible for the yacht part can assist if you need anything. Restaurant is a different manager (Susan). Internet connection does not work most of the time. We had some quiet nights. Ablutions are excellent. 2 stands on lush green grass. Being in town, it is not quiet. Dogs barking, cars racing, a pub blaring music.

As described previously by others. A quiet spot. The walks are on the other side of the reservoir though. On a nice day there are plenty of benches to eat at. It’s right on top of a hill with excellent views. No parking restriction and we weren’t the only camper to check it out as a place to stop, which we did.

This cenote is not featured on most maps and did not make it (yet) onto tourist radar screens.

Cenote in the middle of the community, just a few meters from YUC 295, sandwiched between the Minicipio and the Church. Look for entry in the form of round palapa style building.

* 25pp / 2 hours
* Open 10 - 17 / each day of the week

101 steps going down tunneled out access to cenote with incredible clear water.

Small openning in the top of large dome, but not enough to provide sufficent illumination, artifical lights are be used.

Cenote is over 35m in diameter, half relatively shallow (?partially filled with debris from tunneling?), other half much deeper.

We were there alone (Saturday / 11am).

Good kichen, OK room. No WIFI, terrible shower which has only two modes, cold or boiling hot. Mixing was impossible. The woman looked nice but later on we found she's not that nice despite the smile. At 9:30am the last day she came to ask us to check out by 10. We didn't feel comfortable there.

Absolutely worth coming here. The tour is informative and the location is beautiful.

We got a tour of the night sky using our eyes to see the Milky way, Mars, and some constellations. Then we used one of their large telescopes, and wow! We saw distant nebulae, an exploding star (supernova), galaxy clusters, and many more objects that will have you hooked on astronomy.

TMC La Paz - Mazatlan

Step by step
0. reserve a ticket via phone
1. enter harbour ~200m before the mainroad turns left
2. Pass the blue gate and turn right
3. go through the right lane "nothing to declare" for cars. the officer checked our TVIP for the car and the owners passport. we also had to stop because the system choosed is to be inspected. the officer inspected our van very quick. just opened one sliding door.
3. continue and stop at the TMC office on the right. staff writes down information about the driver. you can give them your passport so that they can copie everything.
4. with this paper you continue to weigh station and get weight and measured. they will write down the information on the paper. you have to pay 176M$.
after that you park your van on the right side beside the weight station.
5. walk back to the TMC office and give them the paper (step 3/4), driver's and passenger's passport. go there before 2pm to confirm your reservation.
we payed 5097M$ for a Chevy Astro with 2 people.
You can pay cash or with credit card.
6. go back to your car and drive to the big blue building. ignore the sign that says ferries to Mazatlan are on the right side of this blue building. they are not.
on the left side of the building the passenger has to leave the car.
7a. passenger walks inside the blue building through inspection like in a airport. but military doesn't really check you.
7b. driver drives car to end of blue building and waits for passenger.
8. drive to your ferry. the ship's name is written down on your ticket. we had to wait until ~5pm to board. for the staff it was obvious that they put us on the upper deck because we might sleep in our van. to make sure ask them when you arrive.
9. check out the passengers deck: dining area, TV area, hot showers, toilets, sun deck. nothing amazing but okay.

ship started at 7pm. we were under the roof on the upper deck. very hot and noisy the whole night. most people slept in their cars and trucks.
Food was okay but we were happy that we also brought snacks, which were much better.

Unsure about the name. It might be Bahrdhr Hotel.

Quite big complex with some 20 rooms. The rooms are clean and there’re long drop toilets and (non heated) showers on the premises. Beds are alright and they do have a generator that gives electricity. Walls with barb wire run around the hotel.

They sell water and beer and can cook you up some food (most probably traditional Ethiopian food) if you ask them. Nearby, on the main road, there are a few bars and one of them serves a quite good pasta! Look for flashing lights.

Payed 300 Birr for a double room. Guy at the border told us it should be slightly less.

Totally okay place to sleep when waiting to do border crossing.

To where the road ends

I just wanted to make people aware of the municipal "Road tax" that we had to pay. In not sure where the municipal starts but Bombas for sure. In a Ford F350 with slide in camper we paid R$41.50. I think it was slightly cheaper for a smaller car and motorbike. We didn't notice any signs for this in the way in so by the time you got the checkpoints you're kind of committed. Traffic at this time of year was a nightmare. The alternate route over the mountain is a nasty, steep, dirt road. A complete rip off of I'm honest but you decide where that alters your decision to come or not.
